I got the keyslot area detailed this afternoon. This is the first chance to use the maroon/purple color.
I mix up a custom color for this as I've never found anything out of the bottle that looks good to me.
I have been collecting pollyscale colors for a few years now trying to get accurate paints for when I'm ready to attempt my own paint up. I have a couple of bottles of caboose I was able to snag. Do you feel your custom maroon/purple is more accurate?
Thanks, guys.
Wardog, the PRR Maroon on its own is a nice dark shade, but it's not good for the darker color on the mandibles.
I use PRR Maroon as a base, then add some blue a few drops at a time until it sort of kicks over into the purple range.
Thanks, guys.

Hmm. . . could have sworn I posted the center section of the band. :confused Anyway, here it is, lol.
I always break this up into 3 parts: center, left, and right. This morning I got the left section done, too.
This will change slightly once I add the white thumbprints. The streaking from the big thumbprint kind of whitewashes some of the
detail on the band. But I won't do that until closer to the end of the project. I'll work on the right section next.
Wrapping up the back of the band. I got the right side done, as well as blocking in the RF ear arch.
Here are a couple of shots.
I'll be working on the front of the band next!
I got the corner of the visor finished up today. This ties in nicely with the area in the upper corner of the cheek.
I'll start working across the brow above the visor opening over the next few days.
I figured it must've been since you are pulling off tiny completed sections. Is it ok to wet sand humbrol enamels, in between layers? I got a small couple of runs on my base layer . Was thinking i can sand it a bit and recoat it...

I've finished the band above the visor opening. Lots of great little chips and flecks in this area. Kind of a warm up for the mandibles.
I'll start on the mandibles themselves now, beginning with the left side.
Fett has half a face now, lol. I got the left mandible finished.
I still need to carve the physical damage, but I prefer to paint things first so I can locate the damage where it should go.
I have stenciled the right mandible and I'll be working on that next.
Thanks, appreciate it.
Making my way through the right mandible. . . it's crazy, lol. I have the upper half finished.
The lower portion has the silver and gray complete, and I need to add the maroon/purple. Then it's just a
few more details in the outer corner of the dark cheek and it'll be done.
My schedule is busy this week, so I'm hoping to have at least a little time to work on the helmet over the next couple
of days. I'll post the completed mandible when I can!
Closer and closer!
I finished up the right mandible (hooray!) and started the effects painting.
In these 2 shots of the mandible, the contrasting gray has already been added.
In this next one, I painted the vertical stain that goes up the right side of the dome over the RF ear arch.
More of the contrasting gray on the rear of the helmet.
The thumbprints.
I've also finished the fade under the killstripes and have started working on the details on the ears.
More later this weekend!
