Pinkflamingos6 ROTJ Build

Here's a few more pics after some adjustments and with the vest and back plate on. I think I'm gonna give myself another half an inch to an inch more slack to the white straps so they're more visible.

I’ve heard kinda mixed thing on this. I opt’d to show a bit more white strap out the back for my setup. In addition, when you look at a ROTJ Boba from the front the tippy top of the rocket from the JP should NOT be visible, or just barely visible from the top of the helmet.

Just my two cents on it.

Iron,
Indeed this is kinda a mixed bag as far as the straps and where the jetpack sits. I'm trying to go for the middle ground for everything. There's a lot of pictures from the ROTJ Era that show two extremes in my opinion of where the pack sits.

Using the stencils and carbon paper I traced out the basic shapes of the gray areas to be masked. I plan on doing a lot of the damage topically, so I just went for the larger areas.
20220206_080720.jpg

Masked the areas using Maskol and 3M delicate surface masking tape.

And I sprayed Rustoleum hunter green on the back panels using my airbrush.

Removed the masking and I'd say I'm pretty happy with everything. Still have a lot of work left to get all the damage, shading, and shapes right but it's a good start lol

I decided to go a little lighter on the gray colors because I'm hoping the shading and weathering will darken them up a bit.

I also couldn't help but suit up again while waiting for the paint to dry... this time with all the gear minus the wookie braids and I'm waiting on a pair of gloves from Mike M.

I did notice that the girth belt needs to come down over the cod armor a little more and I may bring the tighten the slack on the white jetpack straps but overall I'm pretty happy with how everything sits and looks. One problem I need to address per my assistants is how the gauntlets fit over the flightsuit. Need to work out some kind of sleeve to but over the flightsuit to keep the fabric from bunching up and getting caught.

Let me know what ya think, all criticism welcomed!

Sunny day update:

Was able to weather my flightsuit, straps. Vest, and ammo pouches. I used acrylic craft paints sprayed on using an airbrush. Used several different shades of brown to build up a nice layer if grime and dirt.

To give the pouches the illusion of being filled I used some foam cut out to size and put the blocks inside.

I want to have my voice amp inside one of the pouches hanging from the belt so I cut out a u shape to accommodate the speaker.

Was able to get a coat of Krylon Italian olive on the dome and cheeks yesterday. I like the color and it still needs a lot of weathering but I think it's a good start.

I've decided to go with all topical damage except for what I've done with the back panels so far.

Was also able to add some brass rivets to the jetpack straps.

And finally was able to dye my spats. I used Rit pearl gray and dye fixative.

Happy Valentine's day everyone! I'm in love with this tin filled with chocolate my girlfriend/Boba Fett assistant got for me.

I'm planning on using this tin to hold some small bits like the collar studs for my kit.

I was gonna say, your girlfriend and my wife seems to be talking to one another I think. I got the same thing....

In addition, my daughter asked my wife if they could get this for me as well for Valentines Day for the garage - a nice artsy metal print 26.6 Inches by 18.9 inches, from Displate... (Displate - Mandalorian Graffiti Helmet)

I picked up the "The Mandalorian" title board from Hobby Lobby and I think it compliments it.
(y)

I also seen this at Hobby Lobby too and couldn't resist.....

Was able to get the red put on today. I used the same color for my gauntlets, rustoleum claret wine sprayed through an airbrush. I think it's coming along pretty well and I like how the colors look together.

Of course I still have plenty of work cut out for me with the weathering...

Here's a little masking tip for us newbies. To mask off the cheeks I put some 3M delicate surface masking tape on then went over the edge with a fine, ball end tool.
20220216_115657.jpg

After going over the cheek line several times, I used a fresh exacto blade to follow the line. It's important to apply gentle even pressure to cut the tape on the first pass.
20220216_120022.jpg

And there ya go!

I put the final layer of paint on my backplate ad well. I used the layering method like the rest of my armor. Aluminum, rustoleum Tuscan sun, and then rustoleum hunt club green.

It was coming along well until the rattle can started acting up and the paint started cracking.
20220216_140219.jpg

Also the wind decided to blow the piece over and drag it across the driveway and into the grass.
20220216_140214.jpg

I'm hoping a little wet sanding will take care of everything and I don't have to repaint the whole piece.

Was able to mask up the helmet and paint the upper cheeks after work. I used Vallejo 71.091 Signal Blue acrylic paint. Think it looks pretty good with all the other colors and captures the ROTJ vibe pretty well. Now it's time to move on to all the topical weathering...

You'll most likely have to sand down and reapply the green. There's a chemical reaction happening causing that cracking.

Moving on to one of the less talked about aspects of costuming... STORAGE

Been playing Boba Fett tetris trying to work how I'm gonna fit everything into this box. Using foam squares that are used for sound proofing that I got on Amazon to try and make a nice case to protect everything while in transit.

DeathProof made a really good video a while back that goes over how to store your kit that makes good use of space that you should check out.

That paint texturing is problem called orange peeling. Your 1st layer may not have been fully dried. If your paint and material are different temperatures that can cause it too. Using two different paint brands, or types of paint can cause it as well. Nice work though.

I think I was having an issue with the spray can itself. Might have been a bad can, halfway through spraying it ended up changing the color tone and coming out rough. Not a fan of those 2X rustoleum cans
