Seriously, I never thought they would come out this nice but it is really a great deal of work to get done... I have some new respect for you Jeff... it's really not easy to make gauntlets out of metal and your customers are all in awe at your work.

You know what, I am surprised at what I have accomplished and indeed it took time and patience... but you inspired me to make these with the great work you have done and the help you gave me and that was a big part of my ''success''. I might just tackle some metal armor eventually...hehehe. Seriously, you just can't replicate the ''feeling'' of metal.

My right gauntlet is now officially completely done. I will now dedicate some more time to my left gauntlet. All my parts are now in and my metal is pretty much all cut now so on with the assembly!! I'll post some pics of the finished right gaunt and progress on the left gaunt this week.

I use some scrap metal from my roofer/metalworkers shop. I believe it's 18 or 22 gauge. It's very easy to cut with some good metal scissors but once everything is attached together, it's very sturdy. I'll have some pics very soon of my progress.

This is the next project I want to tackle as well. What changes did you have to do to WOF's templates? And wicked beard's armor rocks I have a set for my boba ( in my avatar) It inspired me to make my own metal armor ( to more correctly fit my big shoulders). Awesome work!

can you show the label of the weld bond so I know what to get? and how did you finally get the guants to open and close? did you weld bond the piano hinge? velcro magnets?

I have decided to use some rare earth magnets to close my gauntlets. They are ordered and as soon as I have them, I will install them.
The glue I use is Goop (household version - dries in 24 hours and kinda feels like rubber) or Weldbond (looks like regular white glue, dries clear and also dries in 24 hours).
The changes I had to make to Alan's templates were actually only to make everything kinda easier (bending metal instead of having to ''glue'' 2 parts together). You don't have to do that but I felt it would be easier for me... I guess that would be up to you.

Been making some progress on the left gauntlet lately... should post some pics later this week as most of it should be assembled if I can find the time.

Can't wait to see how it's all turning out. You've done a great job on these gauntlets. I tried doing metal gauntlets but failed miserably right off the bat. It takes alot of talent to make these out of metal.

I'd say it take more patience than anything but I have to say that it's not my first encounter with that kind of metal... working with metalworkers and all.

You using aluminum or steel? If it's roofing then I'm guessing galvanized aluminum? Looks to be around 25-26gu from the thinness of the edges. If these are aluminum, then I'm guessing they are pretty light. I made a pair for my girlfriend and they weigh in at extremely light, yet strong. I made another pair out of the same guage steel and they were over a pound each.

Very nice work Simon. I might try to make myself a set of Jango gauntlets in metal sometime. As I'm sure you may recall from the Christmas parade... my plastic ones aren't very "extreme-cold" friendly.
I do remember and if you remember correctly, I was also missing that same part...
(I was wearing my sintra gauntlets at the time)I think they are 24 gauge but I'll have to check next time I go to my job. They are steel and most probably heavy compared to vac-formed gauntlets but I was looking for something very durable and not breaking so steel was a natural... and I'm a pretty big guy so wearing heavy stuff is not so bad (I've lost 30 pounds since the beginning of my costume 4 years ago). My guess is that it might be very heavy for children or women.

I was pretty close then, its easy to tell by lookin at the thickness of the metal at the edges.
I'm debating steel for my next set...but may end up going with Aluminum just because a full day with steel gauntlets on tends to feel real long around hour 5. =D
