Buda, after helmet number 60 I will level up and then I'll have control over the post office.
Here's the left mandible! This pretty much completes all the basic painting on the helmet. I'll work on the left ear, and then begin final weathering.
I'm also including a different collage than usual since I'm not painting the right side.
We're getting close!
For metal ears, I start by giving the part a light scuff sanding and then wiping it down with rubbing alcohol. Then I hit it with a couple of light coats of self-etching primer.
Number 59 is complete! Well, half complete.
This helmet was a lot of fun to work on. I think it will make for a great display piece. It allows you to see much of the amazing detail that's present on the ROTJ/SE helmet on screen, while preserving half of the molded-in features that have been captured in the wonderful MCR-ESB second gen casting.
This build included the Machinecraft Replicas machined metal ears, metal Borden piece, and a Terminalfettler RF topper.
Once the owner receives it, he'll be installing a JC27 light kit designed specifically for this RF. That will add a very cool touch to this helmet!
In the pics, you can see that I added the small black markings on the RF ear parts. I discussed this with the owner and we thought it would add a touch of visual interest to that side of the helmet.
Thanks for following along with the build. In this gallery, I have included a couple of pics that show where some of the details on the dome cross over from "raw" to painted.
What a beautiful helmet! It's crazy how this looks and it's gotta be awesome to see the paint details on the left and match them up to hand painted details on the right! The ear markings do add a very nice touch!

It really is my pride and joy!! And that’s saying a lot because I do have some very cool star was collectibles. I am beyond excited with what Eric has done.
Working on the lights today. I can’t tell you how much better this lid looks in person! Eric is such a talented painter. Thanks for doing this project for me.
