I use Saral as well, but it doesn't lay down very well on the silver layer. Must be the paint I use for it.

Yes, I've been taking off all masking fluid and tape in between layers to make sure that I don't have any paint buildup as it cures. Possibly overkill, but it's also fun seeing the progress as I go

Built the rangefinder and got the kill stripes on it. My yellow paint was really runny so the stripes got built up more than I wanted them to be, but some steel wool will help knock them back a bit:
