Minutefett ESB Restored paint up

Deja Vu anyone?

I’m much happier with this second attempt though. I only masked out the bigger areas of light grey damage, I’ll do the same with the silver and then go back and do the finer light grey damage. I think that’ll get much better results than trying to get everything with the masking fluid. Before continuing with any more painting though, I’ll sort those mandibles out.

Not perfect I’m sure, and yes I probably could go thinner but that’s as close as my nerves will allow!

Thanks, yea I agree. I know they’re obviously a lot sturdier than they look but I’m terrified of snapping something now
Yeah they should be plenty sturdy. Will get better also once you put the visor in, by the looks of it the OG helmet is also a pretty thin cast.

I have another lineage casting as well from another maker and that one is cast like a brick and weighs about the same as a motorcycle helmet, great helmet but really really heavy. I prefer this thinner casting it's going to be much easier to troop in.

This one is light which is good as the metal ears are yet to go on! I did consider installing some bolts at the bottom of the mandibles I can use to secure the visor, and until then I could bolt a length of metal across just to bolster the structure a bit.

Tackled some of the finer grey detail within the silver on the rear right panel today. Before and after:

Managed to get a much better paint to thinner ratio with 4:1 instead of the usual 2:1 and I used a pointed silicone brush.

Paints still wet, once it’s dry it’ll be knocked back with wire wool and should blend in a bit more.
