Thanks a lot guysThis is what I do in my spare time, haha. Bondo, along with some sealant will make the cardboard very nice, that's the trick.

Sorry for the late reply. I simply brushed on a couple layers of oil-based polyurethane on the cardboard areas. It'll come off easily if you sand it (and depending on the thickness of the layers) but it does its job well. I'm sure there are other options but that's what I had lying around, and plenty of people use it to my knowledge.
You can also use the water based Polycrylic made by Minwax. It's what I used and it worked great. Plus it's an easier cleanup.





Looking good, I can't wait till the mold making process starts, I'd like to see a pull on this sucker!
