Superjedi's MCR-ESB for D. Smith

I airbrushed the main green on the dome and cheeks. Once this dries I can start adding the damage. That's where the fun begins!

Gotta do something while the helmet is drying!
I did some minimal prep on the metal ears and then hit them with a couple of light coats of self-etching primer.
One thing I had to do was make sure the parts that will remain bare metal are nice and smooth. The upper ear in particular had some swirly looking scratches, so I used some fine grit sandpaper to work them away.

I have started working on the dome damage. The back area is one of my favorites to work on. The fine scratches add a lot of character. Of course, the SE helmet has so much more damage in this area.

Continuing to work my way around the dome.
I finished the area behind the RF ear arch, the cat scratch (one of my favorites), and the turn signal area. I also filled the dent with silver.

Me me me, I'm here! I have seen you paint so many of these, but to see mine, knowing it will soon be making it's way to me is surreal It looks awesome, I love following your progress.

As an aside, converting this thing back to an ESB version really tested me, but I think it would be a lot easier if I ever had to do it again. Looking forward to more pics. Keep up the great work!

I finished the damage up on the top of the dome. There's actually a good amount of detail up here.



I didn't have enough time to begin the killstripes tonight, but I did get the right ear parts airbrushed. Look at that gleaming metal!

It's always nice to see a splash of color after working with gray and silver for a few days.

I finished the remaining detail on the dome!
The cheeks are next. You can see I've already blocked in the dark color on the outer cheeks.

The right cheek is finished. This side goes pretty quick.

I'm done with the left cheek too. The helmet is now officially cheeky!
Next up will be to mask off everything and airbrush the red.

It's red day! This takes a lot of masking to do, but it looks so great!
I'm using Archive-X acrylic D&H Caboose Red, which is just perfect for the ESB lid.
