Thanks guys:thumbsup:
I'm happy with how the first pull turned out, but you know what they say...we're our own worse critic!;)

Jango_Newbie, you know I wouldn't let you go home without one if you happened to drop by to help me fit my upper body armor and jp

GBH, I used aluminum filled resin for the gelcoat application (C-1508 from Smooth-On), but it's a dark grey resin so it's no where near a Jango silver. I just use it because it cures really hard and gels quickly; therefore making a good gelcoat. On this backplate, I shot it with some Krylon pimer, then silver, and then R&B'd it.

CGClone, since many people have expressed interest, I don't want to leave you guys hanging. So I'll work on making backplates in-between my other projects and finishing my son's and my gear for CIV. As backplates get done, I'll make them available to whomever's ready. I'm trying to steer clear of making any more commitments until I get all my prior obligations taken care of. Hope you understand.

As soon as I get Loanstar's vest, you can be sure I'm going to affix the backplate to it and post pics for your critique.

Thanks guys for all of your support on this project...I couldn't have gotten to this point without it.

GNC, after the intial thin coat, I poured the other thin coats (2nd and 4th coats) when the prior coat was still tacky. So that helped to speed the molding time up. Plus this silicone from Smooth-On had a really quick cure time of "overnight", so within 5-6 hours it was solid enough to move on to the next coat.

Thanks again everyone for the compliments!

CRUZER Got your voicemail. Schedule should work out. I'll plan on leaving Sat. about 6:00 am. Probably 1 1/2 hours if the "Chippies" leave me alone. I'm bringing my whole suit, I'd like to get someone who knows what the pics should look like to snap a few shots for my 501st application.:) Will you have a back plate ready for that day?

Seeker, real subtle!

Jango_Newbie, I'll have a raw pull ready for you.

Bluewolf, the shoulder width on these is 15.125".

Lonestar, I like the pic. It's my new background!

Here are a few pics of one untrimmed that I pulled out of the mold today...and it may be available.
