First Update on My ROTJ Build:

Things are moving along! I’ve now received the cape, cape greeblie, chest display, jetpack harness, (ESB braids for my other build,) girth belt, and the US Diver buckle in the mail.

I mounted the cape greeblie with help from Irongladiator, really happy with how it turned out. The only hiccup was that the hole in the cape tore a bit when I removed the metal part, but that should be an easy fix with a fabric patch or some stitching.

I’ve also picked up a leather belt from Grue at Handmade Horror Shop, a secondhand EE-3 blaster from Cbrant, and secondhand ROTJ braids by Woodman from Cdyoung.

I’ve ordered Minutefett gauntlets along with the jetpack he’s working on for me. The soft parts from Arkady have arrived at Minutefett as well, where they’ll be weathered and have the grommets mounted. He did the grommets on my ESB vest, and they came out awesome!

Next up on my list is dyeing or painting the girth belt, since it’s currently white. I’m still figuring out the best dye or paint to use, so if you have any tips or recommendations, I’d really appreciate it!

I used an acrylic Minwax stain. I think the color was barn red, if I remember correctly. You can thin it out with some water. I filled a plastic container with it and dipped the girth belt in it. You need to work the stain into the fibers with your hands (wear rubber gloves) and then wring out the excess. Hang it up to dry.

Gotta go with the stain. It will make the girth belt less soft than it is now, but that'll work itself out with trooping and moving in it.

2nd Update on My ROTJ Build!

The gloves from Clothears are finished and currently en route to me here in Norway, can’t wait to see how they turned out!

Managed to score a brand-new Paterson squeegee for just $25 from a store in Oslo. It’s not vintage, but it’ll definitely get the job done.

The No. 4 dental mirror has arrived and is now mounted to the armor with the help of some trusty duct tape.

Tried the dye method on my girth belt, but unfortunately, it didn’t take at all...

Switched things up and used an oil-based wood stain instead, Jotun’s “0647 TREBITT Telemarksrød.”

I masked off the metal parts, mixed the stain in a bucket, and rigged a simple drying setup with four nails and a 2x4 to hang it evenly.
After applying the stain and wiping off the excess, it’s now drying. I’ll check back in a couple of days to see how it looks.

Not totally sure about the color, though, curious to hear what you all think!
:D

Color looks good imo, stain should do the trick. May feel kinda stiff when it fully dries but it will soften up as you wear it. Great job.
Gloves look great!

Your girth belt must be made of synthetic fibers and not natural ones for the acrylic stain not to take.

Yeah, I think so. It looked great right after dyeing, but as soon as I rinsed it with water, all the color washed out of the belt :(

Thanks! I checked on the belt yesterday, and it still hadn’t dried from the stain. I’m thinking of leaving it outside in the sun, as long as it’s not raining, to naturally bleach it so the color doesn’t stay too dark. It still hasn’t dried, and it’s been six days.

It takes forever! I did the same with my girth belt using oil based. Make sure to wring it out real good. The more you have soaked up in it the longer it takes. I think i put a fan on mine too. The smell though....i dont think it will ever leave.
