Toe Spike Attachment Question (Screws or Nails)

Hi everyone,

I have been looking through all the reference photos from the PP to ESB to ROTJ and SE, as well as the 501st CRLs.

My question is, are the toe spikes secured using screws or nails on the sides? Some photos have phillips head screw patterns and others appear to either be filled in or solid heads more like a nail.

Thanks,
Steven

I don’t know for sure having not researched at all but based off of what was done at the time of production, it is probably less likely that X Head (Phillips Head) Screws (or even flat head) screws were used. I’d guess rivets or as you said nails were probably used. Screws were probably used either during filming for on the fly repairs, or more likely after production for more permanent repairs done by not the same people that originally built these props and costumes.

That is just a guess though.

The rounded “rivets” do resemble half round (larger than household usage) machine gun sideplate rivets.

Awesome. Thanks guys! Which of these do you think is closest? Or is there something better out there?

I ended up using these with E6000 applied to help hold them in after I predrilled holes with a screwdriver and a similar sized screw.
