Hey guys, just a quick question for the community. Would this particular silver/foil/metallic shaker color be okay for my ESB Fett?? For helmet and armor?? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks you guys!

I think it would be too reflective. If you're looking for a rattle can silver, try testors diamond dust. It can be found at Michael's and hobby lobby.

I was thinking the same, but was not sure. It may dull down with some 0000 steel wool also.

Thanks again Catbread!

For everything I've painted so far, I love the extra shiny metal as a base coat above the primer.

When you toothpaste or mask the extra shiny stuff, you can actually get two colors out of it. You can make really shiny scratches and leave the scratch shiny, and for the spots that are worn away, they will dull down to a base metallic with a black wash or black drybrush.

The Krylon shiny stuff I've been using also says it's a primer, so it stays stuck to the gray primer I base with.

It's all going to get dulled when you black mist or black wash the piece, so it's nice to have the option of spots with shininess.

I doubt the paint would actually look like that. It most likely will look silver. That cap is vac metalized and not painted.

I am using Humbrol enamels on the helmet over the Diamond Dust, and no adhesion problems to date.

If if you are thinking of my armor repainted last winter, I used Tremclad Silver, over coated with Testors & Humbrol enamels. This was before I found out about the paint fleck size in the metal paint on the movie suits. And boy, were there adhesion problems with the Tremclad!

Ah, I was looking through your FPH2 and ASOK CC paint up thread, didn't see that you put enamels over the lacquer!

Yeah, I really need to get back on that horse. I'm starting to find little flaws and cracks on my current GMH helmet after its 'disappearing act': mandible tips, visor, ears...

Well just for yucks and giggles I gave the color a try and here are the results. Definitely too reflective (as you can see by my hand).

but after taking some 0000 steel wool to it, here is how it now looks. Would this shade of silver be okay??

Looks way too gray now. Almost like the color you're supposed to put on after the silver.

Agreed! I like it, but now it is not silver enough. :(

oh well, next I am gonna try and break out the old airbrush kit (now that is finally came in) and try this again but with the humbrol matte silver 11 and see how it looks from there.

Thanks again you guys for all the feedback! I really appreciate it.

I recently used an all rustoleum line up of colors which included primer grey, then silver aluminum, then chrome, masked it with humbrol, and shot another coat of silver aluminum followed by the blue color I am using and it worked great. The chrome layer really pops, and shows a real subtle difference next to the aluminum. Next I am going to use my air brush to add in some black and other fine details.

Cool! Would love to see pics if you have any!

the Humbrol 11 formula has changed according to many painters. TF has recommended mixing it with Hbrol Metal Cote 1/1.

ooo i like that foil paint! Not for this, but for other stuff! I use krylon metallic bright silver as the base silver, and never had an issue with it :)
