Signal Red and Polish Crimson were both available from Floquil between the 1960s to the 1980s. Lee and I tried to narrow the color pool down by verifying the color was available no later than 1979.

Thing Im having a problem with is the dark green or grey that is under the main dome colour,
I cant work out weather its grey or green or a slate greyie green colour?
Thoughts?
If I'm not wrong, all three helmets were painted at the same time, and there is a pic where you can see the same grey applied to the three helemts and also a chest plate. So, it's the same grey, and the RotJ is clearly grey, not green.
The closer colour I found was the Humbrol #67, which in the SAMPLE pics looks a grey/green colour, but it's a dark grey in the real life.
I dont know about that if you see in this pic the dome(Dome only not visor area) on the clossest one seems to be a grey green along with silver patches were the middle on is grey with sliver patches
There is no green in that helmet (at least not that much) is just a green saturated image. It's the shadow on the helmet that looks like it's painted with green-grey or grey-green. The farthest helmet's dome is almost covered in that 'green' shadow but that doesn't mean is painted... It's just a shadow. This is the result of a poorly illuminated room.
I played a little bit with the color correction of the image and got this:
I use a dark grey color under the green on my rotj paintjobs...if u look at some of the HiRes shots S1P posted u get really good pics of the color under the marroon of the mandibles its grey
