Painting the Grant McCune Helmet (GMH)

Yeah, I get that smarty.
What I meant was the one many consider the ugliest of the helmets.
I always heard of that particular one being called simply the "Sandy Helmet".

on Art's history chart of the helmets, this helmet is labeled simply as the "Sandy" helmet, though of course she painted three. To call it PP2 v2 is even more confusing I think.

This pic in particular shows she sprayed the silver with black or dark grey before the green or red on the back and mandibles...didnt realize this until this thread worked out really well when I tried it this week

What an excellent and informative read. Thank you all for the meticulous research and artistic collaboration. I am so please that I found this community of hobbyists. My goal for my ESB remains Celebration VI.

Ive been looking at the interior of the PP2 , does any one else think the interior colour is the same as the blue green on the upper cheeks?
Looks pretty close to me

The interior colour is black IMO, exactly the same as the one used for the ESB and PP#3. The interior is, white primer, then they add the casio (not the screws/supports for the visor nor the circuit board), and the a coat of black.

The RotJ had a diferent interior surely because it was a Promo helmet at the time of the Heilman photoshoot, until RotJ. So IMO it was changed for filming purposes.

About the PP#2, try to color-correct the pic and you'll see it's black. The pic has a green hue in it.

An at last, the ESB helmet, yep, it has a blue tint, maybe it's blue or the black is changing with the flash (usually blacks turn blue with light), so who knows.

Nup there green blue and black , no to way about it , , the PP3 is totally black it almost looks like the fiberglass was tinteb black , were as the PP2 has white under the green so it seems (along with the ESB that they were white first then during painting got painted blue and green ,

All the helmets were white before the dark coat, even the PP#3, just look at the MQ-1 area from the inside. I still think the PP#2 has black interior.

I dont know about that , there really isnt prof they were all painted hite first , and the key slots, Im starting to think they are a seperate piece it doesnt look like fiberglass or gell coat it looks like a plastic piece glued in

Yes but what colour is the inside of the super trooper helmet ? I can tell you now its not whiteSupertrooper Initial Review 13.jpg and its not just the fact that it doesnt have light in thee that is a dark colour in there
plus look at the super trooper helmet you posted you can see the key holes through the visor there for the MQ1wasnt aded b4 painting

The supertrooper was a joke, I had never seen the interior of the supertrooper. BTW, check your email.

Also, the Sandy helmet has white interior.

Years ago when when I was researching helmet colors with Lee (RS), I found Floquil Polish Crimson was a potential candidate for the PP2 "pink" color. The color is unique in that
  • It's not on the ROTJ helmet
  • It looks pinkish
  • There aren't many pinkish colors in the railroad/military paint lines

I don't believe either one of us ever found that color and actually tested it. So it may be a total dead end.
