Your Woodman cape didn’t come distressed? Mine did, but I ended up weathering it even more with the hammer technique - PITA...
Also, bummer about the lid but the back looks good man! I wouldn’t touch it (but that’s just me).
Also, I feel like everyone else’s helmet is so much smaller than mine! Can’t tell if it’s one of those things where you’ve seen people doing stuff for years, then when you get it you think “oh, it’s bigger/ smaller than I thought”. Mine just seems HUGE!

I’m lucky I got the cape at all. My experience with woodman was... well lets just say a challenge. The back panels were passable, but with all the paint dust that got on it, it was really looking bad so as you will soon see, I already started redoing the back panels too. Yeah my helmet was sith planet and i was printing my stencils at 95% to get them to fit so Im guessing its small.

So change of plans I decided to restart the back panels instead of the red. I mixed up some green paint, stenciled the silver damage and got to work and got this.
I quickly realized the green was too dark so I mixed up a new batch, remasked the silver and got this
I was much happier with the green so this morning I got to adding some small silver damage and fixing some shapes I didnt like
I already think this is starting to look better than my first attemt so it's gonna be good.
The last thing I will say is in the video about the kill stripes. Basically my hi res iphone camera is making colors look brighter than they are so when i ask for feedback I am worried because you guys are not seeing the colors like I am. Need to find a way to take pictures where they look like the actual helmet. It is making the orange POP.

Hey man, thanks for sharing your journey-- both the high and low points. I know this recent turn was a low point, but I'd love to see you regroup and keep coming at this, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Thanks yeah this helmet is proving very very difficult which I don’t understand because I feel like the jet pack and armor were fairly simple

I'm going to start painting my first helmet soon (I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail). Frankly I'm a bit intimidated, but I'm also looking forward to the challenge. There are so many layers and details. Then again, I think that's part of what makes it so compelling... and when it's done right, it sure is a thing to behold.

I wouldn't follow the CRL for reference pictures, instead use what we have here in the gallery, otherwise you're just replicating a replica.

I get what you are saying. I use a combo of the stencils, the screen photos, and the CRL. I am going for basic 501 approval not Infamous. We are so used to looking at the immaculate professional commissioned painters here on the dented helmet. They do amazing work but there is no way even with all the perfect pictures I could look at, that I could ever achieve the level or accuracy they achieve. I'm doing the best I can with what God gave me. If the powers that be want only commissioned artists to build for the 501st then just start forcing us to commission out the whole kit. There has to be some leeway for novice builders to be successful.
- All weathering closely matches film era visual references. Random damage is not acceptable. By using the resources I am using I am closely matching not exactly replicating. None of my damage is random if I am using the stencils and photos. The CRL model is immaculate. Appreciate the feedback in any case.

I hope that didn’t sound like it was said with an attitude I genuinely am grateful for anyone who follows my build and comments but I do understand what you’re saying about a copy of a copy I’m doing my best I’m not a great painter
