General My Boba Fett Build

Getting back into making my esb Boba Fett cosplay again. I’ll keep track of everything I did on here.
So far this is where I’m at:
Helmet:
I purchased a fugly helmet off of wasted fett and plan on doing all the painting myself for my whole cosplay. If anyone has any recommendations for painting I’d love some advice. I’ve heard archiveX has amazing paints so I was thinking that but don’t know how much of everything I need.

Flight Suit:
I bought one off an Etsy seller (KriptonTop). They have good reviews and their stuff looks great. Should be coming mid august.

Gloves:
These I got from the same Etsy seller as the flight suit, vest, and neck seal (should come with the suit in mid august)

Shoes:
I got these off an Etsy shop mostly as placeholders for comic con. Eventually I’ll upgrade to a more screen accurate material but for 50 they ain’t bad at all.

Armor + Jetpack:
All of it will be 3D printed off of MinuteFetts files on Etsy for the esb version. Don’t have many photos so far but here is the gauntlet so far.

Electronics:
All I have for now is the chest piece coming in the Mail.

Air Brush:
I was thinking of getting this one off of Amazon. I don’t have a ton of money rn and I’ve heard good things about this one as long as I clean it regularly.

Ending notes (for now):

Hey there welcome! Looks like you have a solid start on things!

It's great that you are wanting to tackle the paint yourself! Airbrushing is a really good way to go, gives you a lot of control and ability to do things in fine layers. Some people (myself being one of them) prefer to do a mix of airbrushing and topical with a fine brush for small details.

I have that same series compressor and it's still working well after all these years, had to replace a few small parts and fix some air leak with teflon tape but overall it's a great unit for hobby work like this! Like you mentioned, cleaning the airbrush gun is really important to getting good results (especially with less expensive airguns)

This series of videos by blaiden props really helped me through my first helmet paintup (which seemed impossible to me when I started), it's a long series but really helped me wrap my head around things.

In addition, SuperJedi does tons of commission paintjobs and documents all his customer's paintups here on TDH which is incredible!
His threads will be a great resource to read up on.

Happy Star Wars Day!
What better day to begin a shiny new helmet commission?
This will be helmet number 62, and it's the first time I'll be working with a cast from Viva Fett. As some of you may know, Viva Fett bought all of Wasted Fett's molds for helmets and armor and is now officially selling products.
This is a Fugly kit, which has been around for a while. It's nicely molded in fiberglass and gelcoat, and comes with a set of resin ears, a metal RF stalk, and resin RF topper. There's a visor included as well.
Viva Fett did most of the prep on this one, so I'll give it a bath and then...

Thanks for the long detailed response I’ll take a look at all of these! I appreciate you! Thanks for commenting on the air brush I wasn’t sure but I think I’ll go with it!

Good on you for getting an airbrush in the beginning! Too many of us only went to an airbrush after having too many bad experiences with rattle cans . I think that you will find not only better results with an airbrush, but that it is actually also easier to use than rattle can paint. You can also use a lot of the Archive-X paints indoors as many are water-based. This is nice as it doesn't make your planned painting weather-dependent.

I also want to second what lowberg stated about topical application - It allows you to add a lot of fine details and can save you from a lot of mistakes and is very effective at masking knicks and scrapes that parts will inevitably go through (or adding some specific weathering that you are going for.)

My dog knocked my mannequin over and caused some significant damage to my jetpack which I was able to repair relatively easily with paint brushes in the winter. It takes more time and patience but is rewarding. Topical application is also great for weathering the EE-3 and getting a mix of different colors like black/rust/silver etc.

If you are interested at all, I would also recommend keeping an eye on Amazon for sales on Singer sewing machines. I think that I got mine for ~$90 and surprisingly it is another skill that doesn't take much work to learn (I watched a 20 minute youtube video). You can use a tailor for adjusting your flightsuit but nothing beats being able to make slight adjustments yourself, even if it's just bringing in a seam to make the legs less baggy.

I believe that they sell boba fett-specific kits on their website. I know that they have one specifically for the helmet. There are also a lot of threads where builders list their Archive-X paints, for example:

Something I'm having trouble finding is a list of which Archive-X paints to use for the armour. I actually want to repaint some figures and statues, but at some point I'll need to redo my own stuff as well as it's getting a bit scratched. Mine was done using various Model Master mixes which I can't easily get hold of anymore, so at some point I'll have to find new paints.

The Archive-X page says on things like the Weyerhausen Green and GN Grey Green that they're "confirmed armour colours" but not where. Misting and weathering notwithstanding, which would be the greens to use for the...
