Awesome! That's really a good deed Luis is doing for the community. Is the jetpack made of fibreglas? I'm just wondering why it should be necessary to sand it, shouldn't it come perfectly out of the form?

Nice touch with the cold cast, maybe some metal polish could help bringing out the shine even more?

It is cold cast fiberglass, and there was some extra material on it that had to be removed. Like, maybe from sitting around his shop? Idk what it was but it looked like it was close to something else he may have been working on and caught some extra material or overspray from that...? Came right off!

Like I said, just happy to finally have it in my possession!

JETPACK - THE WHITE:
Good Morning all! Yesterday I started the painting process on my Jetpack body. To get here, I buffed the coldcast aluminum (really just for fun cause the coldcast is painted over), the next day I primed the pack. Then came the first layer of paint; the white. Went down pretty smooth, and I plan to buff with steel wool, then mark/ mask some damage. After that, the next layer is silver and grey.

Trying my best to follow the terminal fettler Paintup located here:Finished! Bobamaker jet pack ROTJ se paint up WIP

BUT change the damage to ROTJ, and translate the colors to rattlecan...

I also fabbed up a small piece of plastic for my cape, and painted it!

JETPACK - THE SILVER (BLUE):
I’m going to preface this with a statement. This sucked...hahahahaha! The armor, fine. Gauntlets, fine. Boots and blaster, also fine. This thing is INTENSE.

My goal is to do it justice, especially now that terminal fettler commented on my build, hahaha. I’m going about this the same way I did everything else, and taking my time, reviewing the resources available, and focusing on the detail. I used the templates from Darth Vorhees, but as great as they are, they are general in nature. He even stated that the rest needs to be applied after reviewing resources. So I did, there is a thread here where again, someone isolated images of specific sections - I’m looking at those, and redrawing on my pack.

I then used maskol to mask the large areas, and my fineline masking pen for the rest of the white (in the Blue sections). Then I sprayed the silver tonight. I’ll mark out the silver damage and mask tomorrow, and hopefully lay down the blue by the weekend.

I will wait to weather this bad boy until ALL sections are complete, that way it looks consistent. It will also give me time to source the balance of the parts for the pack cause all I have is the body. I may 3D print the rest, but that seems like ALOT of work...

Quick update as I tried to get this all done and the blue sections painted before it down poured today, but it didn’t work out. In these images you will see fresh masking fluid over the silver layer - next is to paint the blue. Likely will be laying that down and de-masking this weekend!

I want to get to a point where there is no tape on the pack and wait until I have a decent chunk of time to work in it because I’m nervous it might get backburnered for a bit. My wife and I just bought a house, a quarantine house (Hahahaha), and we are getting our house ready to list

JETPACK - DA BLUE
It has been a crazy few days/ week to say the least. Thursday last week, amidst this crazy time in our society with the pandemic and social injustice, my wife and I put in an offer on our dream house! It was accepted, and now we were scrambling around getting our house ready for the market tomorrow AM...

While doing that, I had to take a break to lay down the blue on my Jetpack. I used (2) different rattlecans here. A few people have used Rustoleum Deep Blue. In my opinion the color seems closer to the other paint I used, Rustoleum Sapphire, not to mention Deep Blue is gloss. I alternated coats of each color, and am happy with the end result! I de masked tonight, and the next step is to hit it with 0000 steel wool to knock down the edges, and tape off for the yellow!

Just curious. Couldn’t you have used the coldcast as the silver layer?
From what I could gather, it is a "different silver" than the actual damaged silver. I was very excited to hear that the jetpack was cold cast, and I thought this might save some time and energy, but technically the base layer for the pack is white.

I did a lot of reading ahead of time to see if I could do just that, mask the coldcast and go from there. There was differing opinions, and couple that with what I mention above; I just decided to cover it up...

Interesting. I thought that was one of the advantages of coldcast.

I was also thinking that too, but couldn’t tell if it was white or the cold cast pre-buffing. That’s what prompted my question.
Boba Fett armour didn't have cold cast anywhere. It was all white gelcoated, except armour (that was ABS plastic). Sometimes you can see some chips of gelcoat becuase of the wear, but nothing else that I'm aware of.

I was using that as a reference, as well as templates found here:

I see that they are labeled C4, which tells me that is the SE pack. So now I’ll have to go back in with silver and paint over some of this white damage . That being said - this picture that I’m also using for reference for the Hero pack, shows white (just not as much white as I have, hahaha).

stay tuned!

I wasn’t referring to the white damage, I was just referring to the silver damage. I thought the cold cast could be used in leu of the silver paint. If it buffs out to a different finish than what is needed is what i was curious about. Never dealt with cold cast before. Thanks.

Pretty sure what looks white on this pack in this photo is majority silver. The light reflecting of it is what makes it look white. Lighting changes everything. The actual parts painted white look grey in this.

Booch, here's a post by "T" when he was changing over from ROTJ SE to the ROTJ Hero version. BH16972 ROTJ conversion (from SE)
There's a bunch of differences...
Thanks Don. I’ve seen the post before (of the side by side). For whatever reason I didn’t revisit his conversion thread. Pretty bummed I’m going to have to take this down and start over.

I’d like to confirm with tennantlim on the colors too - to me, even in his post, I see both silver and white damage. The same surfaces have the same light hitting them and I see a difference in color.

Not trying to avoid repainting this or being combative; just want to make sure it’s right this time...hahaha!
