BoochmaN's ROTJ WIP

BACK ARMOR:
It was a beautiful day, and I was able to spray the back armor with the ROTJ green, and I spent the night peeling off all of the masking (that sucked). My plan is to make a pass at weathering, then attach it to the collar before final weathering for consistency between the pieces. I did it to the cod & kidney, and it was successful!

ARMOR WEATHERING UPDATE:
Hey gang! Tonight I weathered my back armor using a mix of acrylics. While doing so, I noticed that one of the “dents” was not aligned with the template from RafalFett - I compared it to a few images and sure enough it was in the wrong spot.

So I did a trick that I read about on here, and heated up the backside of the armor with a lighter, then used the round, backside (handle) of a screwdriver to carefully push on the armor to make the dent in the location that matches the damage. I then did the same process to push out the old dent and make it flush again. Not bad, and after weathering it’s barely noticeable!

I also weathered my Jetpack straps. I wet them, then used a mix of pastels and acrylics on them. They are still wet in this image, so they’re darker than how they’ll end up once dry!

Lastly, a few items came with my armor from Fettpride, and I attached them. One is a metallic painted piece of plastic for the center diamond, and the other is a piece of aluminum for behind the 3 holes in the ab plate. I wanted these installed before I do my final weathering oversprays!

Weathering looks spot on, mate! I'm still debating with myself whether to paint on the yellow (as in the screen used version) or do the layered style (which I think looks actually better). Decisions, decisions... :D

Thank you! To be honest - I just don’t think I’d be able to get as “crisp” with the details doing the yellow topically. Just my thoughts knowing my capabilities.

OOOOOO, that paint work is awesome! Great job! Also wow that must of been a scary process. Glad you got it worked out!

Thanks DB! It’s been crazy seeing it all come together. I can’t help but compare my build and painting to those that came before me, and have been the main references for my build.

I think I’m doing it some justice! Hoping to just shoot for “in the likeness of”, but I’m detail oriented by nature, so that has helped!

ARMOR WEATHERING COMPLETE:
I did some oversprays on the armor tonight. Used flat black, and russet spray stain to add some shadowing and depth. I also sprayed a stiff bristle brush and flicked it onto the armor in carefully selected, “random” locations - I’m sure you understand, hahahaha!

I then took my trusty colored pencil to Jaster’s Feather decal to add highlights per reference images, as well as to replicate the chalk on the ab plate.

Lastly, I used JB weld to attach a curved piece of red acrylic (Fettpride included this with the kit) on the chest armor. Hoping tomorrow I can wire up the Fettronics!

Straps dried and look great, and my flightsuit arrived in the capable hands of Arkady for alterations! Big Day!

Still going to be a bit, unfortunately. After the flightsuit is tailored, then I need to put the flak vest on over that, and get that tailored as well.

All that before attaching my armor to the vest.

Not to mention I also am Jetpack-less...I have something in the works from MinuteFett tho!

JETPACK HARNESS STRAPPING:
Tonight I worked on prepping the Jetpack harness strapping/ webbing for sewing. I used the thread below to put everything together.

The difference for mine is that I used triglides (found on Amazon) instead of “D-Rings” on the upper shoulder straps. I plan to sew the strap to one side of the triglide, and that will allow the lower shoulder strap to pass through the other side of the triglide, and return back on itself...probably doesn’t make sense unless you go and walk through the tutorial, haha!

Everything is stapled in place for now. I’d like to try it on over the flightsuit before I sew it all in place.

Also, as many of us celebrated Star Wars Day earlier this week; I have ALOT more to celebrate on May the 4th. It’s my wife’s birthday AND our youngest daughter’s birthday. I threw on the lid to take some pictures, and got my wife to put it on too (she said it’s heavy)...

The girls get excited that their dad is becoming Boba Fett!

Small update today, but I was able to source some vintage, round head slotted bolts for my cape. I was considering buying them on EBay, then I decided to throw on my mask, and peruse my dad’s “miscellaneous bolt” section of his garage. He literally has anything, and everything you could need!

Found 3 different sets (2 pictured here) at all different lengths. I’ll fab up the styrene piece, and see which set fits the best - then go from there! Thanks pops!

Also, the missing piece of my original 2015 order from Fettpride is ready to be shipped. MinuteFett has taken it upon himself to chip away at Fettpride backorders, and it won’t be long until I’m holding my Jetpack!

Great news :) Looks like Luis has finally figured out how to cast these darn jet packs

ARMOR ATTACHMENT:
I’ve been trying to figure out how exactly to temporarily fix my armor in place. I’d like to be able to do that and make adjustments before punching grommets through my flak vest...

So tonight, I decided to hot glue some thumbtacks to the plastic nuts that came with my armor. See, the issue is that I’d love to follow the step by step instructions by tennantlim , but my armor already came with the plastic bolts attached! So I glued the tacks to the nuts, and then screwed the nuts on the bolts to enable me (in theory) to position everything and make adjustments.

I have the “real” plastic nuts ordered, so I can toss these when done...

Wow! Making a lot of progress here! Looking great! Looks like we’ll have some test fit pics before long!
Trying to do what I can! A test fit at this point will be for nothing more than armor placement. Still waiting on my tailored flightsuit before I do much more with the soft parts...

JETPACK:
You guys, check.it.out! To say that I’m excited would be a HUGE understatement. To hold this Jetpack today, something that I paid for in 2015, is a feeling I can’t describe. It was the missing piece of my build, and MinuteFett came through. I cannot thank him enough for what he is doing for the portion of our community that has outstanding orders with Fettpride. Simply put, he is fulfilling backorders that are not even his to fulfill, and for that, I am grateful!

So what did I do tonight? Well, Luis said that this thing would need to be cleaned up a bit. Nothing I couldn’t handle. I sanded it with 80, then 120, then, 200, then 320 sandpaper (in specific areas) and then I buffed with 0000 steel wool because as an added surprise, it is coldcast!

I told a few folks that you really have no idea how big or small these Fett parts are until you get them, and can hold them. I’ve seen Jetpacks getting painted, and greeblies getting mounted, but have no concept of scale! One of the pictures I’m posting has a penny, for reference. Hoping to prime tomorrow!
