Best way to make grommet holes in your vest?

Hey guys,
I'm thinking about using chicago screws to attach my armor to my vest. I was wondering about the best way to cut or punch the hole in before you install the grommets. Any body have any pointers or experience on that?

I did not do this mind you. I was talking to another member about this in the past and what they did was use something like the tip of a compass (the circle drawing kind, and Icepick or something similar might work) and he worked it between the individual threads and then spread them apart as best he could, then insert the grommet pieces in the holes made. Depending on how tight your fabric is you could do that and then you wouldn't have to punch holes or cut fabric which would probably hold up longer. The other way is just punch away, but no mater what you really want to install the grommets.

Tthey come in all sorts of sizes and the benefit for doing it this way will stop any tares in the fabric from the movement of the screw.

You can also use a soldering gun or soldering pencil type with a pointed end you don't mind using for this , just burn a hole through it and it singes all the threads so no tears or rips . I do it when punching holes in straps while fitting armor and such . Or get a grommet kit for tarps , has grommets and a hole punch in one package .
