T's ESB Boba Fett Build

An update on my build.
I was able to purchase a used Fettpride armor set from the Cargo Hold and was blown away when I received it:

The only addition I needed was adding the chest display board, which I purchased from Fettronics. When purchasing it, I selected the Rafalfett Sequence for ESB. Here is my process for attaching it.

What I needed was electrical tape, duct tape, scissors and a clear protective face shield which I snagged on Amazon for $5. I guess the face shield is not necessary, but it can help with protecting your display board.

I cut the face shield to about a 3.5 x 4 square and removed the protective blue sheet. It cut pretty easily and is flexible enough to bend to the curve of the chest plate.

I then used duct tape to keep the plastic shield in place.

Next, I lined up the board and taped it down 1 section at a time. I used electrical tape for this since the board has exposed electrical parts. Works for me.

Lastly, I used duct tape to keep the electrical tape ends secure, especially since electrical tape is not known for really holding over time.

Ready to rock!

Like a mention before, building is new to me. One thing that has helped me tons is reading past building threads, tutoriols and You tube videos. I am a visual learner and image heavy posts have really helped me along. An idea for new guys is bookmark everything that you find useful or creative, screen capture or print it out. Seriously, this has saved me because having to search countless threads for that 1 thing that you saw a month ago can be a pain.

Here is a look at my collar studs. I purchased them from Toolguy301 from the Cargo Hold. They came in a 6 pack and arrived within a week.

What you need to do is separate them and grind down the connecting connecting plastic on the bottom with rotary tool, easy stuff. Then give them a blast of primer paint:

The bottom of the stud has nut shape hole that fits #6-32. I opted for the 1/2 inch for the shoulers and 3/4 for the cod piece. I used a drop of gorilla glue on the corners of the nuts to secure them inside the studs. Do not put to much because it can block the hole and prevent the screw from going all the way inside.I had printed out a diagram how the shoulder pieces connect awhile ago. Good thing I did because I could not find the post again if my life depended on it.

Finally, I used the 501st ESB Boba Fett Reference Guide to Select the colors for the studs:

Looks good. Not sure if you're doing it yet, but I use a washer under the stud. It stops the bottom of the stud from contacting and scuffing the collar armor where it attaches. It makes the most minimal gap, but the payoff for the protection of your nice paint job is worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the heads up (y). I was actually trying to track down a rubber washer that size to prevent exactly what you were talking about.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, I finished repainting my gauntlets which I picked up from the Cargo Hold. I ran into a major problem with the opening system for the left gauntlet and it had to be redone.
Here is my thread for the modifications and fixes I had to make to the used armor pieces I purchased.
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/cargo-hold-finds-modifications-52521-post659568/#post659568

I ran into a problem with color matching. I could not get an exact match with the previous paint job. So I end up pretty much respraying it with the closet I can get it and then I dirtied it up with a black/windex wash. Here are my results:

I made some changes to the paint scheme with left inner gauntlet by using the reference photos to make it a bit more accurate.

In addition, I repainted the rocket and dental screw:

On the right gauntlet, I painted the darts from right and going inward from black tip, followed by red tip per 501st reference guide.

This image gives a better idea of how I weathered the gauntlets more:

How they look on:

Glad I finished up with the painting. While I was putting the airbrush away, I dropped it and totally bent the tip. :cry RIP

It continues to amaze me, how we buy something brand spanking new for our Boba Fett Build, then just dirty it up to look weathered and used. Go Figure.

I got my Mojofett toe spikes in:

First thing I did, was grab my metal file and gave alittle scrub to help give a damaged looked to them
sp2.jpg

Next I used a combination of black, gray and crimson paint and spread around in the grooves to assist in the weathered look.
sp3.jpg

I then aligned the spikes on the soles, marked the hole and drilled a hole to fit in the lug nut.

Lastly, I put gorilla glue into the hole and E-6000 to secure the toe spike frame.

I agree, so much fun distressing those nice new items, and making them old and used. There is a definite knack to weathering, and yours is looking damn good....

I think the knack comes easy for guys who have a hard time staying clean and find it easy to make a mess. I am one of those guys.

Thank you for documenting your process so well. It really helps guys like me feel confident enough to proceed.

Everything is looking great btw.

So it has been awhile since a update, life gets busy. But moving forward, as I await for soft parts to get completed, I decided to pick up a used vest from the cargo hold and get started on how I am going to attach the armor with proper placement. Here are pictures of my first attempt at getting it together based on previous builds and advise, so I would like your opinions. I just wanted to verify the spacing and placement look good before I start putting on the velcro and magnets to their designated spots. Please do not be distracted that the helmet is an ROTJ, the armor is ESB scheme or the wookie braid placement.

The upper left plate was misaligned, but I wanted to give an angled look
vest3.jpg

So a few questions regarding this:
1) When tailoring this vest shorter, should I tailor it a 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch below the bottom plate?
2) How are most you attaching the wookie braids? with velco or just letting it hang on the shoulder piece?
3) Is it me or do the shoulder pieces look to small? They are by Fettpride.
4) Not a question....getting this thing on and off is definitely not a one person job.

The placement/spacing looks great! Maybe move it all down a touch so there's a little more space between the collar and upper chest plates. but the spacing othewrwise... (y)

I'd tailor it to about 1/2" under the bottom plate.

The wookie braids should be attached on the seam of the shoulder and sleeve of the vest...well on the shoulder but against the seam actually. I had a piece of thin twine to wrap them all togther in one area.. (sort of like rubberbanding a bunch of pencils togther, the twine being the rubber band) ...then i put 2 small holes in the vest ran zip tie through the loop of twine under the braids (so you cant see it) and then through the 2 holes in the vest and "zipped" it on the inside. Hope that made sense lol.
