Yes, I will be adding the base gray, I believe it is humbrol 147, but will be applying it topically rather than go through all that masking fluid.

Got a little bit done today. Ripped all the plastic bags off the dome/mandible and keyhole areas and buffed the back panels down with a little bit of 0000 steel wool. I must say as tough as these things were to do, being able to just sit back and look at the "finished" product made it all worth while.

Man oh man, topical painting is wicked tough!! I am not very happy with this late night job here, so I'm Gonna rest my eyes for a day or so, buff these panels down and try again.

Thanks a lot! I never thought I could even get close to getting it to look even halfway decent, but with all the resources and support here at TDH it is very possible for one to paint up a nice bucket!

Greetings all, hope your all doing well. My eyes are feeling better after all that straining from all the painting and all the detail type work on the back panels this past week. So today I am focusing my energies on getting the bucket prepped for more paint. Maybe even put on some of the physical damage.
you can (hopefully) see that when I dremeled out the visor area, it left behind a few little divots, blemishes and bubbled areas behind that need to be smoothed out.
That is what it so great about this particular helmet, and helmet maker, Animefan. He did such a great job on this cast that there was very little to prep and finish except for these little areas that were of my own making. But, rather than using bondo for these tiny areas, I went and purchased the humbrol brand model filler. I have never used the stuff before so this will be new to me. I have used bondo before and I would rather not use it unless I really, REALLY have to, I am not a big fan of it.
((SAFETY WARNING, just like bondo please use this stuff in a well ventilated area and be sure to read all directions and warnings prior to use!))
a little dab should do it...
just gotta give it a little stir with a bamboo skewer to "activate it" and apply only enough to fill in the imperfections.
and whoa lah
now just gotta let it dry, sand it, buff it and re-prime it and should be good to go. I also recommend using a dust mask when sanding this stuff to try and keep the filler dust out of the lungs!!

While waiting for the filler to dry, I went ahead and prepped the T-visor so that I may temporarily hot glue it into place for the next sections that will be painted, should give the bucket a lot more stability.
on a side note, I did a test fit of this visor and wouldn't you know it, it fit almost darn near perfect!! With any luck, the third time will be the charm (trying to get the last two to fit was a total fail!)

All set and ready for some silver. I decided to try the Testors Diamond Dust and see how it looks. (Another Safety Warning, PLEASE use a paint mask and eye protection when spraying the diamond dust!! Trust me, It gets everywhere!!). I figure if I screw it up, I can always sand it down and then go with the the humbrol 11 and metalcote combo.
