tjr2d2's "Gotta Start Somewhere!" ESB Build

The back panels turned out great! You're doing an awesome job, keep it up! Can I request a pic of the back panels in natural light? Just for some comparisons. Thanks mate!

Thank You Very Much! I really appreciate it. The back panels are currently wrapped up in masking tape, but once I am all done getting the dome and mandible area all painted up I will be sure to add a shot of the back for you! Is that cool??

And the little projects continue...still waiting on the thinner to come in, (should be here any day now!) :(

So Today I turned my attention back to the rangefinder topper. I wanted to figure out a way to be able to access the battery when it needs changing without having the thing being permanently attached. Then I remembered seeing on one of the threads here about a member using magnets and I loved the idea.

So here is how I worked this one out...

Took a trip to the local depot store and picked up a 12"X 12" sheet of galvanized metal (by the kitchen department), and a pair of metal sheers for easy snipping. I also had a bunch of rare earth magnets laying around from another costume project that were the perfect size for the topper.

and a snip snip here and a snip snip there and got a little piece all ready to get married up with the magnet. Just had to rough them up a little to help the glue have a better hold.

Next I got the battery all glued in place.

Then glued the little strip of steel onto the bottom of the persplex block

And then....

boom goes the dynamite.

And still works like a charm!

that may be it for today. As always thanks for checking in ya'll.

Well, the little projects continue, but the good news is the thinner finally arrived so now I may carry on with the bucket, but probably not until tomorrow.
So in the meantime I turned my attention to the collar studs. These should not take too long at all. A few strokes of humbrol 60 on the one going on the far right of the collar, and a coating of humbrol 108 on the one going on the far left.

And done.

I also had a little time today to try and finish up my side arm. It simply needed a new coat of silver/metalcote combo and a little bit of weathering with a black wash of acrylic paints and water with a few drops of dish soap.

here it is after the fresh coat of silver.

then after the weather/wash. Here I mainly concentrated on the tip and the handle areas, the ones that will be shown the most. The remainder will be hidden from view inside the holster.

now to (eventually) fix the holster.

The last little thing I got to do today was remove the red stripe from the security blade shin tool. Did not take too long. Just a little humbrol 11 and BAM!

image_zpsgncjf6rt.jpg

now I just need to finish weathering this up along with the other shin tools and call these done. At least until I get my hands on the real deals!

One last little project before I get back to the bigger project; the gauntlet darts. Two out of the four have to have colored tips; one red and one black.

so I just opened up a container of humbrol 60 and 33, a little dip of each dart and...

whoa lah! Just gotta let them dry on the clip end of my pocket flashlight. The red ran a little bit, but should be an easy fix.

Finally!!! I was able to get the gray layer (humbrol 79) on today!! I am so psyched!! I thought that it might be a little too cold to paint today, but the weather could not have cooperated at a better time this afternoon and I took advantage and got it done.

I Cannot wait to pull off the maskol later tonight!
