The Book of Boba Fett - Official Trailer Discussion

Looks like were in store for a great little series!

One change I really like is that the belt buckle looks more functional - it has a hook on the side that the belt loops through. Not sure if I'm digging the "slimmed down" look of the armor, I kind of prefer the chunkier look of the Mando season 2 look but I'm probably biased as that's what I've been building.

To me, it looks like in addition to the new paint chipping, the angle of his T-visor opening has changed slightly, the dent is closer to the size it was in Empire/Jedi, and the textured/acid scarred paint underlayer from Mando S2 is gone. ie, the armor is smooth again.

looks awesome. is it just me or do the legs look like they have a solid half-skirt on the back instead of the draping panels on one side? at 1:04 is a good shot of it. and riding boots perhaps? if those are leg gators they looked mighty smooth.

Anyone else notice that his helmet is now more narrow than in the OT/Mandalorian, and his neck collar armor and chest armor now have straight edges, rather than the tapering slopes of the OT and The Mandalorian? And the large left chest armor dents (right side as you face him) are gone.

Yup, helmet definitely looks narrower/taller. Plus if you look closely there's some raised detail on the shoulders and vambraces/gauntlets. I really like the new belt as well.

I really like the new soft parts. Love everything about this suit with the exceptions of the armor not maintaining the proper dents and the entire helmet looks like a toy. Either way I'm pumped for the show!

I started a thread to talk about the helmet before I realized this was already here. The helmet is clearly a different sculpt than what we saw in Mando S2. If we're agreed that that originated from the Sideshow bust, what are we thinking about this new helmet? Is it just a completely original sculpt? I can't think of anything I know so long and flat.

Ironhead created it. It uses some of my ear pieces and one of my Borden Connectors.

Its really cool to finally have a trailer! And I am very eagerly looking forward to the discussions about the new costume! Awesome times to be into Fett stuff.

So well... Some observations first and then some thoughts...
A lot of it I noticed myself, some has been stated before and im just bringing it together.

Also the previously published conept art seems to have been from a photograph of this new costume.

Helmet:
  • Completely new helmet!
  • Word is that its a modified OT G2 but I dont have much detail on that.
  • Dent is "correct" again, turn signals are better, the whole thing seems elongated though. Strange. The eye slit is much larger, maybe partially because of that. The theory brought forward by Mtpapa121 is that it presumedly fits Tems Head better. I doubt that tbh, since the original helmet would have had way enough space.
The enlargement of the eye slit could have been nessecarry to enhance visibility for the fight scenes.
  • The physical damage to the G2 was corrected, as well as the wavy brow, etc.
  • The uneven mandible-edge at the very bottom of the helmet seems present
  • There is no ESB flare to this helmet
  • Range finder stalk is completely new, unseen before: its not same thickness continously, but theres a step in it o_O (0:12)
  • Helmet ear cap is much better proportioned, the lower ear part is also way longer then in The Mandalorian
  • The ear platfroms seem to be "straight", not crooked like OT, the seperate pieces line up well
  • 0:39 There seems to be a cut-in slit in the inner ear piece for a wire going up to the topper thats consistent with the metal ears floating around. Could the be metal ears or at least this inner ear piece be metal? The edges of the lower ear piece and the left one seem not sharp enough for them to be metal and due to healt and safety hazards in stunt scenes I also would doubt that they are. But this upper inner ear seems very consistent with the metal ears floating around.
  • The LEDs in the Rangefinder topper are / can be on in the range finder up position
  • (1:16) (internally) doesnt seem to be the clear cut T we all know, but seems to follow the curvature of the cheeks internally making for much more visor material. Also there seems a heavy bracket afixing the visor and stabilizing the mandibles. Good move!!!!
Also of course, the sorta patched together beige colored helmet inner padding.
  • The what-used-to-be-dental-files are there and both silver
  • (1:16) Inner Rangerfinder topper seems completely new and more simple, the lense less sticks downwards less then OT
  • (1:16) The ears seem to be not molded in but seperately attached (you can see a seam between helmet and ears) Also visible at 0:18.
  • The key slot backing seems to be put in separatly and it extends all the way to the bottom of the edge (1:16)
Armor hard parts
  • 1:22 At least the stunt armor is made from rubber. You can see it deforming.
  • Knee pads seem to be knee pads again, not shin armor. Which is goooood :)
  • Armor is smooth, no etched paint underneath anymore, but we see a new damage pattern with chipping
  • The hand plates are back - must be a nightmare for dexterity^^
  • Collar armor seems to have come down lower then either in The Mandalorian and in the OT. strange look.
  • All physical Damage to the plates seem to be gone.
  • Non-stationary chest lights display
  • No hoses on right gauntlet
  • Inconsistency: At 1:18, now there ARE hoses for the right gauntlet. Hoses are black, 3 of them, they seem to have a sort of mesh around them (1:21).
  • Opposed to the OT and to my eyes even more extreme then in The Mandalorian, the parts of the chest plate "coming together" around the diamond are strange: the upper one is waaaaay lager then the lower one. In the OT it was the other way around. Strange look.
  • The "keyboard keys" on the collar armor almost seem molded in and definitly shorter, then in both the OT and The Mandalorian
  • Chest emblem is more subdued then in the Mandalorian
  • RotJ shoulder decal (more or less)
  • There seems to be an outward ?!? return lip to the shoulder plates (0:42)
  • Chest light display doesnt seem to be on all the time
  • Chest emblem seems to be a decal (0:42)
  • Somehow, the curvature of the chest plates seems to be more in line with the OT
  • Shoulder bells are sticking out more like wings again compared to The Mandalorian, although they unfortunately are still tucked under the vest.
  • (1:11) the transition of collar plate to back plate seems definitly different then in The Mandalorian and there seems to be a sort of strap coming from a slit in / hook on the backplate, upwars over the upper edge of the backplate or what could be a hook on the backplate and unter the collar plate. Jetpack strap maybe?
  • Collar studs / keys could even be recessed into the collar plate? (1:14)
  • 1:18 shoulder plates seem extremely thin, it appears as if the sun is shining through them. They are same-colored underneath as well
  • Has the 3 dots on belly armor
  • There is a raised edge to the outer edge of the diamond
  • Gauntlet details seem to have changed (56Strat )
  • It has also been commented, that the armor seems thinner, which I only aggree with for the shoulder plates, the collar etc. seem very thick
Soft parts
  • The "scarf" seems to have shrunken compared to The Mandalorian
  • Fett sports a so called Kama - a sort of back-half skirt common with Legends Mandos
  • Seems to have dark brown / red-ish brown high boots. Cool! :)
  • Obviously, entirely new belt and there are greeblies all the way around, also below the jetpack (1:18)
  • ...has a light brown colored holster
Jetpack
  • The "rivited on patch" for the jetback is gone? Not sure about that one.
  • RotJ-Paintscheme-based
  • Jetpack Stabilizer beacon is there and has a red light in it.
  • 1:20 there seems to be a new Jetpack attatchment method!
All in all, this should be the easiest-to-recreate Boba we have aver layed eyes on. (Once the makers start offering the pieces, that is, lol)

A whole new set up. I think this will be dynamic like Mandos kit, maybe it will change over time, maybe it will stay consistent.

40 years ago we have but minutes of Boba Fett screen time, now? We will see hours and hours of it.

So much to come from this from a costuming point of view and I hope a really great story too.

Speaking of the boots -- I managed to find a version of the first poster without the title logo.
There's a nice look at the new boots with the gamma increased. They're of course completely different to the Nortiv8's used for TMS2.
Not sure what to make of them yet, they look modern..I miss those toe spikes.
