Purchased a Disney 18" Boba Fett and cut it into pieces ! Figure Mod

Hey guys, I got a little busy and never got those pic's up yesterday....

So here are a few more and I'll try to get some additional tonight.

Believe it or not, I'm just a little over half way through this build, so lots more boring details to come ! lol

So DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS....



So I was looking at the molded girth belt.....and I have to say, I was going to leave it. But I thought I've come this far, I shouldn't skimp on the mods now.



So off to the store to buy yarn....



cut some lengths and glued together



oh, and while I was at the craft store, I noticed this parachute line that might work well for the fuel hoses on his arm....we'll see



mixed some black acrylic paint and watered it down to ink consistency to tint the cord



removed the inner threads and ended up something tube-like....I had a hard time finding suitable braided hose for this scale.



Ok, hold the jokes on this one.....lol. I was doing some research on how to "stiffen" fabric....so this should work for the lines and I might try it on the cape to see if it will hold up. More on that later.....

cut the pouches off the belt and glued to sheet foam






painting to match



started working on the lines but the kept collapsing so I inserted a metal wire and glued into place













got the 3 in...I'm not sure if I'm totally satisfied, I may change later...

hey guys, back with an update....




started painting the tools



just super glued into the pockets I opened up






found some thread I thought would work well for the scalps



after a few trial braids, I had to enlist the help of my daughter to show my how it's done.....




darkening up the red on the belt.....



braids are done but way too bright



used knife to fray the ends to look more like wookie hair



"boba, looks like you need to lay off the cheesburgers for a while"



again, the molded buckles on the backside have to go as well....



getting a base coat on some accessories



inventory check



tested the fabric stiffener and it works great !

Base is primed



base coat of brownish orange



adding in some finer detail with pebbles and rocks just glued on..



while the base is drying, back to the armor



weathering with some hits of black...and adding battle damage



time to paint












trying them on for size....



added in some of the details that I originally removed from the figure....

so back again with a quick update....

gotta keep improving, so the molded details had to go to make room for something more realistic



decided to just cover up the mold




balsa wood




metallic paint




metal wire glued in







sheet foam for the belt and more wire














painted the belt to match a little better




wrapped the ammo belt around and glued




attached the pouches










getting closer.....




Next, we'll be painting the jetpack !

I am definitely happy to be near the end....of actually finishing a project ! You see, I suffer from project procrastination, lol

Yes, I am horrible at starting projects and not finishing them....so to see this through will be monumental !

ok, let's finish this up...

time to paint the jet pack and fly the cape....



first off, I had a few issues masking the sections off.....




As soon as I pulled off the tape, my entire airbrushed coat came off.

back to the drawing board and repaint the pack.




while the pack was drying, started to work on the cape




checking the attached area to the shoulder..




used sheet foam squares painted silver and just glued them right to the cape.




looks ok, but I want a little more dramatic look




time to stiffen the cape




propped in added wrinkles, completely dowsed with stiffen and let dry




the result turned out pretty nice....although still a little too heavy to support itself




after trying wooden dowels for support, went with solder




works well, holds it in place



bent it down a little so it doesn't look like he's in a full on wind storm




now back to the pack.....




since the airbrush coat came off so easily, had to switch to acrylics....




the goal is to paint it as if Boba had just unpacked it from the Amazon, then scuff it up and add scratches and wear.





























getting closer, time to add the shading.....

airbrushed some black to weather it it a little...













started scratching the surface




with the enamel base and the acrylic/airbrushed top coat, it scratches off very nicely...










ok, pack is done....




finish coating the base







attaching the pack and wookie scalps
















time to attach to the base...drilled a hole through the foot




hot glued a wooden dowel as far in as possible




positioning the hole in the base to accept the dowel




nice fit....

That's it, COMPLETED !

well almost completed....













took a few pictures outside in natural light and noticed how glossy the paint looked



used a matte varnish to remove the shine





definitely toned the glossy look down....







ok, NOW I'm done....ugh
