Painting the Grant McCune Helmet (GMH)

right there are some HEAVY areas on the dome...look at this pic there are parts that are heavy grey under the green

BTW, Humbrol 117 is the same as RLM 82 (for those EU & AUS guys).

@F4R, the way I see the helmet was painted at the DOME is, first primer (Ok, I know ), then the silver (a really bright polished silver), the the grey applied on some spots (so it goes from heavy grey to light grey at the same spot, as can be clearly seen at the pic above), the the green coat, and last a dusty grey all over the helmet, heavier at some spots. And then, why not, a light acrylic black wash.

I also have to look if the Humbrol #157 is a match for the cheeks blue. It looks to be and also has some kind of green in it, but I still need to test it. Here are some pics:

Totally agree on this

Here is my list colour right now. I still need to check some colours but I think this will mainly my definitive list for Humbrol colours. Also, I've attached a pic of the red so you guys look how it looks. I've tweaked the pic so the colours are seen as I see them with my eyes.

I haven't posted the list because I was looking playing with the colours for the Pinkish colour of the PP#2. So here it is:

Main green - #117 (RLM 82) IMPORTANT!: This colour is dark, as is the RLM 82, but it has the grey weathering on top so it looks lighter on the originals. If you want a greyer colour use #31.
Cheeks blue - #157
Dark grey - #67
Mandibles red - #100 + #73 (1:1 Ratio)
Back green - #88
Kill stripes orange - #82
Manibles pink colour - #73 + #34 (I don't know the ratio, just play with it, start with the #34 and add drops of #73 until you get the colour you want).

The pic you've posted is not the real RotJ. Also, the upper cheeks are blue, they just react greener at some lighting conditions.

Oh, and here are two more pics of the #157 where you can see the green hue. IMHO Humbrol #157 is a better match than RLM 70.

Good call F4R...
Question: How did we get to "Humbrol" paints?? Didn't we already establish what brand was used? Just seems like we are color matching the color matching.. no?

Try to get Floquil paints in Europe

Not all the people in this side is so hardcore that will buy through someone the correct brand of paints. Not my chase, but I tried to help others.

Then we should prob start another thread for those people? No?...maybe link it to here.
But I was under the impression this thread was about matching as close the original as possible. First step to that would be using the same Brand..Floquil.

Again just seems like we would be "color matching the color matching" with Humbrol..IMO.

As stated in post #114
