NEW BOBA FETT ROTJ BUILD

Also, nice on your LED Chest Display - I've not heard of Jupiter Electronics before - looks good though. (y)

For me.....and this is just me being weird. I couldn't bring myself to do the display of:

I know it is a common thing to see on the chest display. But if you try and pronounce it.....for me I keep hearing "Dweep" which is a might too close to "Dweeb" in my opinion. And a dweeb, I am not - Hahaha! Again, a weird observation by me, I know - but I couldn't do it. Hahaha!

So....yeah concerning the Chest LED and Dweep, much like Mark Cuban from Shark Tank...

I will say this - I'm NOT going for 501st approval - which is why I had the luxury of not going with "Dweep". I also told myself that there was no way I was doing the whole "Boba Thong" thing either. But after the wife telling me that I looked like I had a saggy butt in my flight suit I quickly changed my tune. Which solved the aforementioned issue and honestly, didn't look that bad either. So if anyone has any reservations about putting on the Boba Thong - Just go for it!

Thanks,
-Iron
Thanks for the chest display tip and I didn’t know of JupiterElectronics either until my brother told me about him. He’s on Etsy and I thought the price was good, around 90 with shipping. LOL it really does look like Dweep or Dweeb. I am not going for 501st either, just want to do something fun and try to be as close/accurate as possible! Which relates to me definitely doing the Boba Thong LOL!

1/26 - Got some silver down on most of my pieces. I’m still working on the cod and will start the back plate as soon as I clear up some space! Next step will be masking fluid!

2/1 - Hey everyone! No real update today but I will be starting masking fluid on the armor very soon! Does anyone know of or have the best photos for ROTJ Hero? Specifically for all the body armor, shoulders, knees, back plate, cod, kidney, and knees. I’m looking for film era references, I have a few photos (attached) but was wondering if there’s an other photos out there? Thanks!

2/7 - Heres the result from masking off the silver! Very happy with the shade of yellow I used (reminder, I have using spray cans). Next step it to mask yellow and mask over the silver. I know that some builders will leave the masking fluid on the silver and peel everything off at the very end once the green is on. However, it’s much easier for me to see where I have to mask yellow if the silver is visible. Still have to do the back plate and knees!

Looks good! What colour/brand are you using for your yellow?
I'm about to dive into my yellows this weekend and could use the advice!

Cheers!

Thank you! For the yellow I’m using Rust-oleum Golden Sunset. It’s a gloss paint. I’m using it for the body armor yellow exposed damage and also for the top layer of the shoulders and knees!

Looks great. (y)
For the most part, I think just about everyone takes off all the masking fluid with each layer and then re-masks like you are doing. It’s usually not a good idea to leave masking fluid on for several layers or for too long, as it tends to create a big mess.

2/9 - started some work on the shoulders last night! I masked off the silver last night and added lighter yellow over the top this afternoon. I Probably will mask off the knees today and possibly start masking off the yellow on the body armor, cod, and kidney.

....in that I also agree on the whole removing the liquid masking once you are done and then re-applying over as needed for the layering. While I can't speak from experience, my guess is, is that if you leave it on layer after layer that you'd make a mess and possibly ruin your hard work in the process. But it sounds like this is not an issue with you. ;)

But your progress thus far, does look great from where I'm sitting. Keep it up!

My first kit I ever worked in I left everything on and peeled at the end. Although it didn’t look terrible, it definitely wasn’t as good as it probably could’ve been, had I peeled off and reapplied between layers. Lesson learned; also go to more tedious route, it will pay off in the end! And thanks for the kind words, I’m liking how everything is looking right now so far!

2/10 - Heres the result of the silver masking fluid peeled off on the yellow. Really love that shade of yellow! Unfortunately it’ll be masked and then covered by the primary yellow :)

2/11 - Hello there pretty happy with how these turned out! Still going to add some more detailing with the airbrush but overall, the majority of the work is done!
