NEW BOBA FETT ROTJ BUILD

Hey everyone! I decided that I’ve enjoyed the process so much of making a Boba Fett costume that I am going to do another set. I’m going to try and share my build as best as I can as there will be a lot of adjustments made and new things added with my previous kit.

First couple things I’ve gotten done today; 1.) sand and prime 3/4 shin tools (the jet pack adjustment tool is already done as it’s just silver and was completed from previous build). 2.) green paint selection; I think I am going with rustoleum satin spruce green and top that with rustoleum satin hunt club green. 3.) ordered a new armor kit from MinuteFett!

Another thing started; sanded and primed my EE-3 blaster

Nice! And Welcome! I know yours is an ROTJ SE variant, I'm wrapping up a ROTJ Hero build myself - I'll be working on the helmet this week.

I see you got yourself a Rubies EE-3! I picked one up earlier this year to practice painting on. I've got an older '95 Don Post that'll pair and display nicely with. (y)

One of the videos that inspired me to attempt a paint job of that EE_3 is the one from Cosplay Chris. If you got 12 minutes, check it out....

In my eyes, he does a superb job on it and is pretty entertaining to watch. Good luck with your build.

Thanks,
-Iron

Hey! Right now I’m kinda leaning towards the SE but I do like the Hero as well! Still kind of in the middle of that, I’m indecisive! I’m in the early stages so I guess I still have some time to ponder that. Yep, I had that EE-3 previously painted but I want to redo it so I’m starting over. I’ve actually seen that video before, he does amazing work!

8/19 - added some silver to the shin tools and black to my EE-3!

Hey mjwierzb - I would recommend hunt club green all the way! Idk if I would bother with the spruce...are you thinking the spruce is for the ESB damage that shows through...?

If so, I used an AWESOME rattle can enamel from Model Masters called SAC Bomber Green. See images below:

Hey man! That’s what I was thinking, using the spruce green for the damage that shows through on the ROTJ armor. There was a template on here that I saw had an exposed lighter green for the ROTJ but I could be wrong. Does the ROTJ armor not have the exposed green? If not I’ll just use the hunt club green!

Hey! You may have misunderstood what I said - no biggie. I would use Hunt Club for the MAIN green, and SAC Bomber Green for the damage that shows through!

8/20 - Update! Today I’m going to start painting/detailing my shin tools. I also have received more paint for my armor! For the yellow damage under the body armor, I’m using the Rustoleum Inverted Line Stripe Yellow (going to be interesting using an inverted can LOL). For the shoulders and knees, the pale yellow damage will be Rustoleum satin Summer Squash (I also have a Rustoleum satin Lemon Grass that is very similar to the Summer Squash but the SS is way better). For the main yellow on the shoulders and knees, I’m using Rustoleum gloss Golden Sunset. And finally, my MoW ROTJ gauntlets will be repainted with the Rustoleum satin Claret Wine. Also got some new masking fluid in, Maskol by Humbrol (seems to be the most popular choice).

Did some work on the shin tools. The sonic beam and survival knife I would say are done! The anti-security blade still needs some black paint and tape!

8/21 - shin tools are all but done! I know the ROTJ hero only uses the sonic beam and anti-security blade, but I got the whole kit from MoW so why not do all of them! Besides, I’m still in the cross roads about whether to do hero or SE so painting them all is a necessity! I’m also practicing weathering fabric, as my flight suit needs some dirtiness. I’m using an old t shirt for practice. I bought a spray bottle and filled it with water, black, and brown acrylic paint. The mixture turned out more black than anything. I’m compensating for not having an airbrush LOL

8/22 - Just did a little more practice with the spray bottle and fabric weathering. This time I had an even better canvas to practice on. When I started this building journey, I thought I could go cheap and get an XCoser Boba costume, remove all the “armor” parts, and have a somewhat serviceable flight suit. I’ve learned a lot during this build and the XCoser suit was deemed useless. That is until today at least! I used my spray bottle to weather over the top and pants of the costume using a brown and burnt sienna paint. I made sure I used more water this time in the bottle and I gotta say, I’m pretty pleased with how it looks! We will see how it dries!

Still a little wet but I’m liking the way it’s looking! I had to do another spray, added a little more paint this time.

8/23 - felt ambitious last night and decided to weather my boots! I let them dry before I took any pictures and here’s the result. It’s kind of tough to see the color difference so I tried to capture that as best as I could! Also, I decided I’m going to do the ROTJ Hero instead of the SE!

Also just got some rectangle rings and nylon strapping for the jet pack. I couldn’t find the rings at Home Depot or Valu to my surprise so I had to order a variety pack off of Amazon. The strapping is also from Amazon.

Not a bad start.

Kinda funny but I did the weathering on my boots last night as well. here is the 501st's CRL Stock photo of the ROTJ Hero Variant....

Boots.jpg

Boots with Spikes and Weathered.jpg

the 501st CRL photo shows some light rusting around the spikes and for that I used a rusting paint kit from Vallejo.
Vallejo Rust Kit.jpg

other than that I painted on the Black Stripe and then some light dry brushing of white on the black stripe. I used my airbrush to mist on black along the lower portions of the boot all around and actual dirt from outside. Oh also inbetween the toe spikes there was a dark grey rectangle that seemed to be painted on so I did that as well. ;)

The White Strapping I was able to get from Hobby Lobby. I bought 1 yards worth of strapping (Which for me was more than enough) and had my alterations gal sew it onto my Man of War Studios Jetpack Harness.

But I'm liking the way yours is shaping up! Keep going!

Thanks,
-Iron

Your boots look phenomenal! I do not own an airbrush so I had to improvise with a spray bottle and some acrylic paint for the weathering on the boots. I will get around to doing some rusting around the spikes sometime today!

I figured Hobby Lobby would probably have the white strapping but it’s about a 20 minute drive from my house so Amazon Prime works just fine for me LOL! The MoW jet pack harness is on my list to buy at the moment, I’m trying to teach myself how to sew so I can sew the straps on!
