Mandalorian Commando ( just getting started)

Since, I play airsoft or used to on a regular basis. I've seen a lot of unusual guns and such. But if you want to take a regular gun and give it the Star-Warsy look try the FAMAS, P90, G36C, or the AUG. Any of those will get you close to the Star Wars look.

I would argue that NONE of those guns gets you particularly close to the Star Wars guns, many of which were based on WWII-era weapons. The idea for a successful Star Wars weapon is LO-tech, not high-tech. Clunkier is better.

Yeah, but the flaw in your plan. Any WW2 replica fire arms are either 300 to 1000+. And thats too much money. Any French, or Australian weaponry has the "Futuristic" look to it. And a lot of the WW2 weapons aren't that clunky....

True enough. But my argument stands that Star Wars guns are more '50s ray gun clunky and less Star Trek smooth and pretty. Lots of deep, oiled wood, long barrels and chipped paint.

I don't think its more clunky then industrial. You have to remember, WW2 was after the depression. So stuff wasn't guaranteed to look good.

I think the chest plate looks a great deal like what would be used in the KOTOR era. It looks similar to the chest plate used by the Mandalorian that steals Campers ship in KOTOR issues 9-11 (I think those are right)...Anyway, that's the direction i'd go in-or at least you may want to look into it seriously...

i agree with Asylum, its r-painted armor and sorry doesn;t seem right. What i think you could do is keep it, repaint it all solid black or grey or what ever color you want your FLACK VEST, then put mando armor on top. i know its alot o armor but hey its heavy, and you get the same old mandalorian armor look and feel.
repainting a chest peice seems... well i saw it, laphed a litttle and though someone was trying for a very cheap outfit......

sorry if its insulting. no malice. maybe i need to see the rest of the armor first?

o and modify the gun, i to know the gun (from SG1) and still looks like a slug thrower to me.

I've got to say that whilst I can see what you are trying to do, it just doesn't quite work for me. Taking snowtrooper armour and painting it with the shapes seems a little like you are trying to cut some corners. I realise this is not the case and that you are trying something new, but fans won't know that. A better approach would be to have a chestplate with the detail molded in.

The P90 is a good choice but I agree it needs some work before anyone is going to look at it and see a blaster and not "those guns for Stargate SG1". The Asylum's suggestion is good, whilst Toragh's has the excellent advantage of being an actual screen used blaster!

As regards to calling it a Mandalorian Commando, the only flaw there is that regular Mando's are Mandalorian SuperCommando's

Please note that I am not trying to be offensive, cause trouble, start an arguement or the like, but simply to be helpfull and offer my advice and experiance

Everyone need not worry about offending, That's one of the reasons i love this place... every one has an idea... some love it, like it or hate it! and that's!!!! cool later tonight i'll have some more pic's and i do agree with the p90 has far as it needs somthing, so i'll play with it and see what i can come up with...........

Ok everybody i played with the idea for the gun and think this works , also a pic of what i org thought for chest pc let me know what you guy's an gals think....

nice thinkin on the chest plate... and dude cut off the black areas and i think you got yourself the heavy armor

gun will look god to, nice changes!

Also on any 'Star Wars' weapon scopes are a must, but not modern dot scopes. The star wars scopes tend to be more of the skinny long scopes. Even cheaper bb gun scopes would work well. And in the vein of chewbacca's bowcaster and zam wessel's rifle, more then one scope only makes it better!:)
The look of the p-90 might be even more different if it had a skinny scope.

I think you may be steering to far from the Mando Concept. I understand that all mandos have heritage and armor markings and cuts that are unique to them, their mission and their clans, but the still have the seperate pieces. Something doesnt sit right about it.

Well, since some clones supposedly stayed with the Empire, some may have used that armor when it came into service. Then a family member of the clone or that clone himself took his armor and customized it. Still Mando worthy.

Plus, the Galactic Marines (Clone Troopers) wore the predecessor to that armor.
Here's a costume of one:GM
