So here's the shameless selfie to see the lid on my head! Went into town and forgot the **** steel wool to buff it out more, but I did get the visor trimmed and drilled out. Helmet is ready to glue in the brad hole T nuts for the visor then prep for paint. Ear pieces are located and drilled out, ready to primer.....

That is looking really good!!! I'll have to start my own thread when I finally start piecing together my Jango! I am definitely loving Jango's Protector armor color scheme!!!

And....I have the first casualty of the costume this year. Visor ready to use to position T nuts for gluing, super glue acts up....and wind up putting drop on a piece of paper. 10 minutes later I sit the visor on the same said piece of paper.....And its longer work life CA glue. Guess it will serve as a template for the next one, SOAB!

Any thoughts on the helmet? Keep going with 0000 steel wool?

No, the polyester cc is not like casting resin cc. The more you abrase the surface, the darker it will get. Remember, the surface of the original suit was not super shiny. If you want a highly polished surface, you have to use a metalized polish like Rn'B.

Royal blue is down and the ear pieces are primered. Now for the wait to paint the Ocean blue..... Gearing up for the next part, girth belt assembly using Cruzers tutorial.

Paint is down. Now to let sit for a few days, then get the masking tape residue off of the coldcast. Some extremely minor touch up I want to do around the band. Should be no problem. Ear pieces are drying and will assemble this weekend.

Started working on the weathering. Flying a little blind on this so far. I've gotten some pointers but it just doesn't seem to be connecting in my head yet how to make it look more realistic.
Next up will be the helmet padding and fan, and the helmet skirt also. Bolo material ordered (again!) for girth belt, as I fell short on round one. Got one put together that would fit someone with a smaller waist, but not going to work for me....practice makes perfect I guess.

For the weathering I like to use basic craft paint. I usually use black, burnt umber and gray. I stipple it on with a ratty brush, and I lay it on fairly thick. Then I let it dry for about 5 minutes and wipe it with a dry cloth. The results is that it stays in the creases and crevices and some small amounts will be on the dome and such. If you don't like how much is there you just rub more of it off. If you want more then just repeat.

The results tend to be really uneven and gives depth to the weathering.

What type of paint is craft paint? I bought some acrylic junk from Michaels that dries if you let it go more than a few seconds....

It is the acrylic paint that comes in the little squeeze bottles. It is probably the same stuff you bought. Even if it has dried it usually rubs off with a dry cloth and some pressure. If you really don't like it then use a wet cloth and it will all come off.

Forward progress, but taking it slowly. Got the upper armor located, working it in sections to make sure I keep the spacing as accurate as possible and spaced right with the girth belt.


Got the girth belt finished except getting it laced up. Still have to make the cover strip but holding till I can suit up to get the width right on it. Hoping the 3 inch width will work but I'd rather prove it before diving (or cutting) in.

Got these boots too, but not sure how the flap part will cover up with the boot armor. May have to get some of the crowe62 boots....

For all of my past and even current commissions, I've used Apple Barrel brand acrylics, black and brown. Walmart usually sells this and it's dirt cheap.

I will mix a bit more brown into the mix for better contrast. The benefit to Jango is that the weathering is still quite subtle. Really the splotchy portions are along the edges, ear caps, along the brim, and where the blue/silver meet on the inner cheeks.

Less is more!

Also, aside from using the black/brown mix for the corners and such, I usually apply the same mix across all of the helmet. Using a rag/towel to wipe away excess, reapply, repeat until I get it looking even and the way I'd like it

Thanks guys! Now I gotta get my padding put in the helmet and locate the neck seal.
Vest fits good but gonna have to add a slit down the back and get it hemmed up so I don't "hulk" out in this thing. I know jack squat about doing that or if it'll even work. Open to suggestions on that one.
