General DrToothache's ESB Boba Fett

Did a repaint of the killstripes today.

Started off by preparing the acrylic stencil and applying it to the helmet.

Used ArchiveX paints and my airbrush to apply the paint. I used SP Armour Yellow, SP Scarlet and Rust. I first applied SP Armour Yellow (2 medium coats across all of the stripes). I then applied Rust, making a gradient that is heavier towards the back stripes and then a light misting of SP Scarlet.

To finish everything up I went over the lighter stripes with a little more Armour Yellow and then dry-brushed some white to try and get the different shades on specific stripes.

This was my first time ever painting the killstripes on a Boba helmet but I am pretty happy with how they turned out!

Those killstripes look great!
Thanks Buda!

I made some minor adjustments to the yellow-orange gradient and cleaned up some overspray. One thing that I noticed in reference pictures is that it doesn't appear to be an even yellow-orange gradient. The color seems to shift back and forth a little as the stripes transition from yellow to orange until the last 2 stripes which are dark orange, which is what I tried to replicate.

Honestly I think that the front 4 yellow stripes should be more faded, and the dark orange stripes could be dry brushed with some black - but I think I am going to just roll with this for now as I am tired of staring at different pictures of stripes.

Some good updates tonight.
  • Received my repainted knee and shoulder armor from MinuteFett.
  • Swapped out the 1" knee straps for the 3/4" inch straps that I've been working on including the newly dyed right knee strap.
  • Made some final touches to the braids
  • Adjusted placement of shoulder armor higher up on the shoulder flaps (hanging slightly too low previously).
That's a wrap, for now at least. I will be suiting up in a few days to take photographs for 501st approval. Any criticisms that I can fix before I suit up would be greatly appreciated! I will post my pictures here prior to sending for approval.

Note that since adjusting my jetpack harness so that it sits higher on my back, the harness no longer fits my mannequin. So he will be jetpack-less in these pictures.

Did a suit up by myself with some adjustments, the new helmet, repainted knees/shoulders etc. No jetpack or balaclava in these photos.

One thing that I noticed after suiting up is that my cape is still a bit too long. Going to shorten that. Other than that I think that everything looks alright to my eyes.

I didn't have the best lighting, but used some regular indoor lighting and with a studio light for some variation. Going to do a full suit up with a helper this weekend for approval photos. This forum doesn't seem very active like it was a few years ago, but I am definitely open to any criticisms.

After taking the photos, I realized that my hose was stuck on the black braid and didn't make it into my sleeve (just a side effect of trying to do this by myself..)

Those new armor pieces, especially the shoulder look great! Suit up looks awesome, glad your dog didn’t get in the way this time!

Thanks, I am really happy with the new paint work. It was definitely a little too dark before. And yes, Reagan hasn't had any more incidents with the mannequin

Are your chest electronics on in the pictures? If not, make sure to power them up for the approval pictures.
No the chest lights aren't on in these, figured I would save the battery for the real deal. All of the electronics will definitely be on for the full suit up (y)

Great thread really enjoyed it, and your work is top notch. Did you ever get black wire for the hose? If not bicycle break cable is a good option, either used or new . Good luck , although from the pictures it’s not needed.

Thank you! I did end up finding some black wire. I used an extra HDMI cable that I had and just cut off the ends. The bicycle cable is a great idea!

I did take my 501st pictures today, will be uploading those shortly.

Looking at my application photos now. Had a helper this time to help me suit up for these, and unfortunately there were a couple of things that weren’t put on exactly how it needed to be.

One of them I should’ve noticed, the ammo belt and holster setup. I usually have the holster attached to my scuba harness belt.

The belts in general also weren’t tightened enough, so they sagged down eventually a gap on my back between the Jetpack and where the belts start.

I ended up reaching out to my GML and he seemed to think that it wouldn't be a big deal. I have photographs showing how it usually fits and it really only affected the picture of my back.

Either way, let me know what you guys think.
