Another Custom Mandalore Handblaster Idea, Need Help.

Howdy guys,

I'm looking for any help, links, etc, in finding someone or a company that does RESIN copies of these 2 weapons;

1. 2nd Model Colt Dragoon

Got some modification ideas and need either of those 2 handguns in Resin. Custom Handblaster for a Custom Mandalore. :)

Plus, besides the 44-40, these are my 2 fav black powder guns. ;)

Just so everyone knows, I DON'T have the above guns at all. :) I wish I did though...

The name and true source of the ESB sidearm is still a mystery. Aside from some rather iffy shots of it in the holster, pictures of the pistol are pretty much non-existant at this point.

I hope that someday a pic turns up that will show more of it, until then...well, we'll just have to do the best we can :)

Okay my next question is, seeings how I'm doing a Custom Single Drop Down Gun Rig for my Mandalore. What style holster setup would look good with the armor?

The rig, with the holster, will also have the ESB/ROTJ style ammo pouches on the belt.

And the finalists are:

- Han Solo's 3 Point System?

- Daddy's [Jango] style Holster, just one side?

- Western based style gun rig? See pics.

All of your options are good. Han and Jango holsters could be used again on a Han or Jango costume should you ever decide to make one.

Personally, if I were doing a custom Mandalorian, I'd mold my leg holster(s) into my leg armor...so maybe that's another option if you have time.

Oh, oops, never answered one of your questions about the full name of his sidearm...

It is referred to as a "concussion grenade launcher" in "A Field Guide to Boba Fett's Mandalore Armor" which was a foldout poster included with Star Wars Galaxy magazine issue #1.

I personally haven't yet seen it called anything else yet, but then I'm still far from being an authority on the subject.

Both the Han Solo and Jango set-ups are cool, but for that particular sidearm, I think I'd go for the Han Solo option.

That's a sweet looking piece btw! Nice choice Halo_1!

For my custom Mandalore, I'm curving a piece of steel to my leg, and using kick-ass magnets to hold it on...
With these magnets, they'll be no problem with it staying on...

Look forward to seeing what you come up with!!

Hmmm, well my E-6 will be able to be a 'concussion grenade launcher' too. Check out the O/U barrels I got on the gun. Top will be for the standard blaster mod, Under will be the GL. :D

Custom Holster Rig Setup

Hey all,

I finally came up with a design and hit the leather store for a quote.

It's a basic 3 point Rig system [Han Solo style], with Jango Pouches on either side of my belt.

When I get more info and a rough pic, you'll see it.

I know both of these REAL well, especially the 1860. IMHO that is the bestest-shootin' and pointin' pistol ever made by Sam'l Colt. Either of these would be fantastic choices for converting to a custom. The 2nd Dragoon (denoted by the straight back of the trigger bow), and especially the 1860, are rather long pieces, so a bit of shortening may be in order for a practical carry. They're also quite large by today's standard of pistol size.

All of my personal pieces are actual firing ones, but I have had quite a bit of experience around prop ones in HollyWeird. Usually, they are found as neoprene-foam with a wire armature inside. At a few feet they are nearly indistiguishable from the real deal. I have tried resin-casting my 1847 Walker Dragoon, but was dissatisfied with the results. I opted instead to go with prop replicas of Smith and Wesson Russian revolvers(the only prop ones I own). I got these, from a WIDE selection of other well-made metal prop firearms from Fort Bridger in Bridger,Wyoming. I believe it is a state park. The trading post area is well stocked with many examples of popular Old West replica firearms, including your two.

Unless you try and convert either of these into the base for your main weapon, I would counsel looking into trying something a bit smaller. Perhaps the Baby Dragoon or the Sheriff's Pocket special. The 1860 IMHO would be a slam-bang base for your MAIN weapon. Much like the Webley was used for Boba.

Try a search for "studio props" maybe. I will mention that a firing replica can be had for under 200 dollars US brand new, and often can be found cheaper as a used piece. This metal version would allow plenty of secure options for screwing on parts and converting pieces. Please let me know if any of this helps or if you need more info.
 
MMM, thank you very for the info help Sir! I totally agree on the 2 pistols above being great bases for a custom mod.

And while I have yet to shoot these 2 fine weapons, I love em to death! Came to love and adore em from the old Western Writers like Zane Grey, JT Edson, Louis Lamour etc... Yes, thanks to my Dad, I'm a Western fan...right down to my Justin Boots. Noticed the old gun rig in the above pics? :D

Unfortunately, I live in a country where such weapons, even replicas DO NOT EXIST or allowed in country [Singapore]. Hence the request, long shot I know, for Resin Copies.

MMM, would you happen to still have a pic of your Resin Casted Dragoon? I would love to see it. Also, would you happen to know anyone willing and able to do such a Kit?

It's probably better that no extant copy of that Walker exists today :lol: . It was brutal to the eyes, my friend :) . Lemme try poking around a bit for what you are looking for. If we can't find it, maybe we could figure out something with MY 1860. Or even my Walker. I don't cast much in resin, and wonder if the whole process for one piece would be cost effective for you. Perhaps someone else has an idea?

Anyway, after posting the last comment, I started thinking. Have you ever seen an image of the Colt Paterson? It's much smaller than these other two, perfect for a sidearm for a Fett, and even has a kidney shaped grip end that would slightly resemble Boba's pistol. I have three of these, and am shooting two of them in that reins-in-the-teeth-galloping-hell-for-leather pic I posted in the "costumes other than Boba" thread. They are sleek and very pretty design; they border on art. I'll try to get a pic up later as time allows.
 
MMM, I wouldn't think that you did that bad of a job, your metal helm looks good...unless someone else picked it up and asked you what you were doing with a Hair Dryer... :D

I don't really know what the costs are involved in Resin casting a copy of any of the above 2, but what would a ballpark figure be?

I know of both that you speak off. And while the Paterson revolver was the predecessor to the first Colt Walker Dragoon, I found the 5 shot revolver, [Hoping I don't get struck down by the Colt Gods ;)] nothing fantastic. It didn't hit me as much as the 1860 Army, the Dragoon or the much later 44-40 did. Personally, for prop modifications, I'd stick to the 2 above.

However, I do appreciate you personal insights and opinions on the guns though, thank you very much!

BTW, love that galloping, shoot em up pic...very nice shot..literally. ;)

The numbers on the left are the number of models left. The prices are fixed at $69.00 apiece, any type.

69 bucks is pretty good IMHO. If you can swing it, go with that.



What? No comment on the Webleys? :) I've been entertaining the idea of creating a sidearm from a cast of these eventually. No definite plans yet, though. I'm not as experienced in resin casting as I'd like to be.

Actually, taking a second look at the Webleys, IMHO, they'd look perfect for a Holdout Blaster. Don't ask me why but that's what I got looking at em... :D
