Started a little work on the shin tools today. Got them all sanded and prepped, ready to paint.

I wondered. How are the 3D printed shin tools? Is there a reason you picked that option vs getting the real patterson squeegee and stirring tool?

They are nice, I really like them.

As for why 3D over the real parts, no particular reason. In the future I will definitely seek out the real deal(s).

I like seeing the things that 3d printing can do, all shapes and sizes coming out.....who will print the first helmet I wonder!

Already done...just not a Boba one. You can find 3D files for a helmet on Thingiverse.com and you can see at least a couple of completed printed helmets there. One is a jango. I also know Animefan has been doing many of his helmets via 3D printing as well.

Just a quick little update here. All the soft parts; flightsuit, flak vest, neck seal, gloves and boots are off to get some weathering from 22ssplt

As i await for my armor and gauntlets to arrive from the UK, i figured i would concentrate my best efforts and attempt to paint the bucket myself!
With all the paint threads and youtube videos, (I am a visual learner!) as well as support from you all here at TDH, I am hopeful that I may be able to pull it off.
I recently purchased an airbrush kit & compressor off amazon to help the effort. Just need to pull it out of the box and try it out before I go and mess with the helmet. Also got a bunch of humbrol paints in, i dont have all the numbers handy, but i have used humbrols before and think they are awesome!

Step one: wash the bucket. Try and get all the mold release stuff off. Using warm water, a bit of soap and a piece of 0000 steel wool.

then i will let it dry overnight and see if it needs any additional washing.

Was finally able to make some progress on the bucket today:

Got the bottom edges sanded down flush

getting there...

Next I got the visor area out

Then after 2 epic fails at shaping in the T-Visors (snapped them both!) ((not happy!!)) I went ahead and cut out the Borden connector area and got a couple of coats of primer on.

Not bad considering I managed to break not one, But two visors! UGH! Lesson learned, next time go nice, slow and easy with the heat gun (if I use it again!).

I have a question for you all...

the primer feels a bit rough after the third coat dried, should I sand it down? If so would regular sandpaper be okay or should it be damp/wet sanded??

I wet sanded mine. Took 3 coats in total to get the whole thing smooth; I used 220 fine grit and 800 fine.
