My ROTJ journal

I love scratch builds, this is awesome!

They are fun but working on it almost everyday for 6 months you start seeing green :wacko

The jet pack is done :jetpack:D

Almost.......

The only bit left is the two stalks (gyro and what ever the other one is :facepalm I forgot) , I have pre-wired the pack for the lighting so I just need to make that up..

I have weathered the heck out and the end result is pleasing, it looks good in side and outside in all lighting.. The only tweak I may make is the width of the nozzles they seem a tad to wide but is an easy fix

I will be doing the harness next from scratch to, I am almost done with my girth belt but the buckles are hard to find??

I have a more details done, the jetpack nozzles have been taken in and the overall look is better now its not so wide, I have the specs for the jet pack harness and got a start on it.

I put some copper pipe in the bender and bent it round 180, it come out to wide so I cut a section out and joined it back together, I found some nice ally plates used as diffusers in ceiling lighting for the cross members, I will have this thing finished by tomorrow but here is a sneak peek of it

The only thing I wont add is the resting bar at the bottom the rig that the pack sits on, the reason why is I need the armor to arrive in December from Boba Maker so I know where on the harness rig to fix it to, if its fixed to high it wont fit..

I have the harness all done, I just need to add the cross member and maybe pop a rivet through the plates and into the pipe work to keep it sat still, other than that it was fun thing to build

It was made with things I had laying around, I do like a free build :D

Jet pack straps are on, I use three clasp webbing belts from an Army surplus store at £5 each, they are tough and come with all the parts I needed, it took most of the day measuring them up and stitching them together and I also used shoo Goo to stick them together for that little bit extra.

I had few bits to finish off on the bracket and give it a coat of paint just to really tighten it all up and now that's good and solid to, I have test fit this harness on myself and its great :D fits really well feels nice and strong... the only part I have not done is the straps that come off the main strap and through the back armor and hook on the jet pack, the reason why is I don't have my back armor yet so I don't want to fit it in the wrong place, same as the bottom resting bar I feel its best to wait for the armor.

I have some padding that can slip on just in cae

I am in a spot of bother with an item I am waiting for...I have my chest lights on order from Fett Tronics problem is the last know place it was according to the tracking number was at a depot in the UK....that was on the 10th..... I think it may have been lost in the mail :cry nothing takes a week to get across the UK... I have rang them and nobody can find it, the damn thing was not cheep just to be lost....Gahhhhhh!

Update, My chest lights arrived :D, they were again held up with customs charging...but they are finally here, They are from Fett Tronics and I must say the quality is outstanding

I have also finished my girth belt, I could not find the screen used buckles for them and I was not happy with the ones I tired to make so I went with something that is fit for purpose and will be fine for me. I used Shoo Goo on the back side to keep it all in check so it don't slip about , I did finish it off with elastic to get it looking as accurate as I can and glad to say it fits perfectly..

I also picked up this arctic sleeping bag cover, it was from a local Army supply store for £5 and I think its quite a good color match, once its been given the rough treatment it should turn out good

Howd you get the shape for the belt, Batninja's tutorial is for non functional pouches. Did you use cardboard or aluminium? :)

Awesome thread by the way!

(y) Thanks I am trying :D

I just took the outside measurements and made a card box out of it, mine did open but I found I had nothing really to put in them so I sealed them shut.

I have made a small bit of progress, I am getting ready to move house so I have no real time for this at the moment, but I will get it done before March! that's the aim anyway.

So I have started the cape made from that sleeping bag cover I have put some holes in it as you do! and rubbing over the edges with a soft sharpening stone to fray and fluff up the edges. Its not finished but getting there slowly.

I should have a follow up on this soon.

I have made a move on the shin tools as well, they are made from a plasticard and cardboard, the WOF templates have worked out great I recommend them to anyone.

Every now and then I like to 'reflect' on everything I have made, the amount of hours of research, looking at pictures, asking questions and spending my personal time on it is a commitment that's for sure :wacko
but without TDH and the know how on here I wouldn't have this little pile of Fett parts.. thanks guys to all that have helped, cannot wait to get the parts from Bobamaker now to kick this up a gear

I love scratch built stuff. Most of mine is or was scratch built. I've replaced most of my armour with Bobamaker now but my pride and joy is still my jetpack (scratchbuilt). Well done and can't wait to see this project on the mannequin :D

Yeah amazing scratch build work going on here, and there is something nice about when someone asks, hey! where did you buy that from.....Buy?:cool:D ha I made that...then the follow up woooooow :rolleyes

Moving on to the scalps, I seen so many versions of these with a whole mix of colors, I went with the one size fits all brown, blonde and black.... so ebay come back with these horrid things

20151031_130237_zpsxy0zr7s8.jpg

That I spun into these

20151104_205605_zpsxhdehelv.jpg

Like I say I see lots of variation in color and bits of fabric, beads, leather etc mixed into the hair so this is my take on it, I need to take the shine out of them as they are very glossy. but with a bit of work they will be fine for me.. (y)

Small update on this, I have been in the middle of moving home so had no real time to continue this, but Ihave made a few small changes, first off I have a new tempory work station in one of the unused back rooms in the house
IMG-20151114-WA0000_zpsuluf4tr8.jpg

I couple of little items arrived in the mail, I have a better version of the gauntlet keypad and the vent for my jet pack that I left out
20151116_203737_zpseqehsjvu.jpg

I was going to buy the light beacon on the pack but I thought I would make it, turns out the little bit at the top with the slits in it is hard to make, but I found the top off a tooth paste tube when trimmed down fits a treat,

I also turned down some wooden dowel to get the tapper in the beacon

20151114_160914_zpsos7iajm3.jpg

made the little adjustment knob for the other side well I was at it, them cheep crafting knifes come in handy for this part!

20151114_154935_zpscc4xdcqy.jpg

its a bit raw at the moment and I know there is only 3 slits in it,as far as I know it should be 4 but that's all I could do without the whole thing becoming to brittle

20151117_185503_zpsdcgf0u9m.jpg

I have made a few changes to the pack its self, it needed all the wires put in, power and a nice 8mm LED for the beacon, its a bit of a mess at the moment but I will get it all painted again and sealed up looking good as new in no time.

20151116_203830_zpslxz1tsl2.jpg

I will have the beacon fitted by tonight for the grand tun on, I hope it come out alright the LED I am using is very powerful that's for sure, I dont fancy walking round with a little light house on my back!

We shall see later..(y)

I have the knees now almost finished 100% thanks to MachineAfett and his skills I got these little gems turned out of ally :D

I am also a few odds and ends away from finishing the jet pack for good, I should be able to hit that over the weekend.

-HELP- anyone know what version of ROTJ the knee darts have the painted Red ring on the front of them, and I also think Blue?

Shin tools are done, all painted with a wash on mix to start the weathering, as soon as I get a new airbrush kit I will finish them off, I also painted up the knee darts and will get them mounted.

I have a set of brand new Man Of War boots that are in immaculate condition that I will have to weather soon, (they are next on the to do list) and of course the toe spikes, there is really something not right about painting/weathering a pair of boots that cost a few hundred bucks to look like something you found in the bin... I been wearing them round the house for ages to brake them in avoiding everything in case they get scuffed/snagged  oh well....

I have done a dress up with all the items I have so far, Please forgive the mess in the back ground I have only just moved home This is a spare room, wont be decorated until I finish the renovation on the rest of the house, (The new man cave :D) I have no time to my self these days got so much on at the moment, anyway here I am with what I have so far!

That's all for now.

One set back however, I have a huge order from Boba Maker to arrive, it was due in December but due to all the floods he had that's been pushed back to January now, I only have until March to finish this for showcase at a Con here in my home town so time will be tight, it's not Daz's (Boba Makers) fault these things happen, but until then there is no a lot more I can make, I have another helemt coming soon that I will use for trooping so I will crack on with that as soon at it gets here and maybe just improve what I have with more accurate parts (y)
