Rotj armor/ SE Helmet sheen

What is the correct sheen for the ROTJ armor and SE Helmet? Flat or Satin?.
Does anyone have any good techniques to get the correct finish?
I have done some test pieces using tamiya flat clear, letting it cure for 4 or so days, then giving it a light rub with steel wool. It gives it a more natural sheen than satin finish.
In the reference photos the armor can appear to be either depending on the lighting and camera. I see many satin armors but they look shiny and plasticy in the pictures people post.
