Bit of an update!
Unfortunately I think I'm in the market for a new vest this one I nice but has some flaws that'll be hard to overlook. The length and stitching are easy fixes, but I found that the section by the collar armor is too long. Hopefully you can see in the pictures:
The vertical stitches run down too far past the shoulder tabs. It's still a really nice vest, but this is too big of a flaw In my opinion and is too hard to fix for the cost of a new vest.
Anyways, I was able to knock out a good bit of work on some of my armor pieces in the meantime. I first primed all my pieces with tamiya surface primer then I sketched out where I wanted to add the texture with a pencil.
Then I went around each piece with liquid masking and tape to mask off the smooth areas.
I then sprayed the pieces with the rustoleum texture paint shown in a previous post. Huge shout out to BH-51512 or Neo Fett for recommendations! Once the paint dried I went around de masking everything which took quite a bit of time lol. The results:
I then gave all the pieces a coat of rustoleum aluminum paint and now is where the magic starts to show. You can see the transition between smooth and the texture.
I then re masked all the pieces with the liquid masking and used the existing texture as a guide. I then painted the chest plates with tamiya deep green.
I still need to go around and clean up/blend a lot of the edges and add all the other paint chips but I'm pretty happy with how it is coming along.
