My scratchbuilt Gaunts

It's not the best photo in the world, but I'm reallllly happy with how they turned out.
Everything was 100% built from scratch.
They're at http://photos.yahoo.com/darthbish
There also some pickies of my scratchbuilt Jet Pack, and ammo belt too

Fantastic work for scratchbuilt. Really impressive.

The only thing I'd change, which is minor, but will have a great effect is to put some stitching on the ammo pouches.

Well done (y)

Yeah I've thought about stitching on the belt but here's the REALLY annoying thing. I can build gauntlets, belts etc from scratch, but I can't sew to save myself.
Weird hey

Hey, those aren't bad at all! Color and weathering are both great. Nice job!

Just run them through a sewing machine...you can go as slow as you want. It beats hand stitching. :angry

Looks great! What kind of harness did you use on your jet pack?

WOW! Those scratchbuilt gauntlets are Great!
We are scratchbuilding all our stuff and it gives us hope that we can produce some pretty accurate stuff by scratchbuilding them.
Once again, great job. (y)

The harness is almost like a backpack that runs inside the Jet Pack and comes out in 4 places. I'll post a picture of it so you can see.
I'm not overly happy with it, it a bit restrictive as far as movement goes.
I'm trying to figure out a better way to do it

I thought I couldn't sew either, but the decorative stitching on belts and pouches is dead easy to do by hand, if a little time consuming! Take a ruler and line it up about 3/8" inside the edge of the pouch/belt whatever. then mark with a bradawl or similar holes every 1/8" all around the edge. Then take the bradawl again and make holes all the way round using the marks as a guide.

Then take some sturdy light grey thread and just go through the holes, up, across, down, across, up, across, down, across, until it's all the way round.

You now have stitches that are 1/8" long with a 1/8" gap in between each one and the next. Like this: - - - - - - - - -

Then go back the other direction, going up the holes you previously went down, and vice versa, so you have a line of continuous stitching. Like this ------------------

Repeat on other pouches and belt.

Like I said, it takes a long time, but there's nothing to it, skill wise.

Give it a go, you might surprise yourself. If you're unsure, try it on a test piece first, rather than your actual belt.

Good luck, and post pics when done.

Believe it or not I have thought of getting a paint-pen from a craft shop and actually painting/drawing little "------'s" on the vinyl.
Anyone tried anything similar?? Did it work??

ok, there's a photo of the back of the Jet Pack at the link mentioned at the top, you can probably see why I'm not entirely happy with the harness set-up.

Also a couple of shots of my ESB Blaster
