MOW boots

I think that's an old site. The new site doesn't link to Boots, and I won't link the site due to site rules.

Well, this is concerning. I'm just getting started and thought I was playing it safe going with MoW for the boots

I haven't received mine yet (I live in Europe) but your posts made me slightly less excited about tracking my package lol

Not blaming Christian though, sh*t happens and I bet this is harder on him than it is on us, hopefully the boots will be good enough until I find an alternative!

Man. I almost feel guilty about my initial post in the Cargo Hold that started this panic. But it would have happened anyways. I just happened to get mine first and be home I guess.
Really sad cause these were simply a replacement for my MoW boots I got in like 2009 that were literally falling apart and didn't have a correct toe.
Also, I paid with PayPal and opened a claim and he did send me a size 10.5 to replace the crazy clown shoe 12. Part of me is like I shouldn't have to pay for this "not as advertised" item, but part of me doesn't want to hurt a maker that I have bought so much from for 17 years.

Received my Man of War boots today. I made a post in my build thread, but here are my thoughts.

1. I got mine at size 11-1/2. My normal shoe size is 10-1/2. I think this size will work for me as I have a wide foot and this boot is actually somewhat comfortable. The toe is slightly long, but a little padding up there should solve that pretty easily.
2. The opening is huge and probably going to be the hardest to fix. When walking around, the biggest irritation was the huge gap around my ankle. I clamped off the excess behind my ankle with a binder clip and that helped immensely, so I just need to find a way to do that without ruining the aesthetic. Maybe some elastic sewn up front to bunch it under the spats? Or tuck the legs of my flight suit down there to fill out the space?
3. There is a little bit of room above my foot before hit hits the fabric. I was walking around with 1.25" lifts which helped a little, but I may need to add some extra padding there as I felt like the boot didn't lift with my foot until it contacted the fabric. Irritating, but not a show stopper.
4. The toe shape seems to be OK as the boot spike kit I picked up from MachineCraft fit it almost perfectly. They don't have as aggressive as a cutback behind the spike strip as the reference picture though. With some decent screws holding it to the boot and some adhesive behind it, I think it will at least be passible.
5. As noted by someone else, the outer layers of piping do no have as aggressive of a sweepback towards the black elastic, they more or less just sweep up towards the top of the boot and run parallel to the elastic. There is a little bit of additional separation at the top, but not a lot. Based on some reference pictures I saw, I think this will be covered by the spats.
6. The soles seem to be 4 parts: the bottom layer of white; a consistently thick off white/beige; another sliver of off white/beige below the heel tapering off towards the toe (more obvious in picture 2); then another layer of white right below the boot itself. I am hoping this is paintable as the "ice cream sandwich" look is a bit goofy.
7. They are a lot more beige than I anticipated. Not really a problem as they will be painted, but I was expecting it to be a lot whiter.

I had people messaging me asking for opinions about them before your post so it would have happened regardless. Lots of people in the same boat.

Well here is my assessment of the replacements. I got my 10.5 in the mail and while it fits better, it still feels like clown shoes. The opening is the same size as the 12. The black piping is actually shaped better at the top and stays symmetrical as opposed to curving out. The top of foot and heel still isn't shaped right. The sole shows the clear lack of quality as you can see the factory just piecemealed foam and rubber. It's not even one piece horizontally, so these soles are gonna fall apart in all ways. Im really about 2 seconds from just escalating the PayPal claim due to flat false advertising. As much as I was a MoW fan and customer, at some point he should have stopped before shipping these out. There are just way too many issues.

As much as I respect MOW I would file a PayPal claim. They shouldn't have been shipped, and there should have been more of an effort to make things better, like a partial refund or something.

Spent some time on the new MoW boots today and figured I should share to this thread. Painted and just did some of the weathering, not fully finished. No toe spikes yet but here are some pictures and comparison pictures of my current MoW boots from a 2020ish run. (2020 boots are the ones with toe spikes in these pictures).

It is a bummer about the inaccuracies in this run, but with the flightsuit /spats they I think that they look alright. Not worth the price but to be fair they are much better than some of the boba boots out there in the wild. I definitely understand why people are upset about the outcome. These are definitely not up to par with previous runs of his or WF's....

First time boot paintup for me as I got my current boots 2nd hand pre-painted, I loosely followed tutorials above with an airbrush but did a base coat misting first to shift the tan color more light grey first.

I wonder if it would be feasible to open the rear seam, remove a "V" of some material, and restitch- to shrink at least the ankle opening. But I guess that might mess up the overall shape.

Might now hurt the overall shape, which could be an improvement in the heel area.
