MOW boots

HaringJr

New Hunter
The latest batch of MOW boots is arriving at people’s doorsteps and the news is not good.

After many production delays, these boots are not correct:
- wrong color, the fabric seems to be flipped inside-out
- sole is 2-tone
- shape is wonky, with wide fat ankle, wide forefoot, and tall toe box, not at all like the example shown on the sale page
- sizing is large, perhaps one size up

The shape and sizing is the real concern as it is not correctable.

The Fett community has been patiently waiting for these. We need a go-to boot and are willing to wait for quality, so this is disappointing. I personally need several pairs for various projects, so I’d be a loyal customer if the product was correct.

I’ve emailed MOW and await a response.

Please post up your photos and your assessment.

Just got the response emailed to everyone:

To Everyone,

I want to extend my deepest and most sincere apologies. I've recently become increasingly aware that the boots were not manufactured according to my original specifications. Despite multiple attempts to get clarity from the production company, I've received no response — and at this point, I still can't confirm my suspicions. What I can say is that I feel completely ignored and deeply frustrated.

This situation has been incredibly distressing and has had a devastating impact on both my personal well-being and my business.

I am truly sorry this has happened. I understand how disappointing this must be, and I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me. I also want to be transparent with you: this situation has financially ruined me, and at this time, I simply don't have the resources to issue refunds.

If possible, I kindly ask that you try to make the best of the boots you received. I do have a limited number of size 10.5 and 11.5 available for exchange while supplies last. These smaller sizes appear to be less affected than the larger ones.

Thank you during this incredibly difficult time.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Christian - Man of War Studios

That's a bummer to hear. I have a couple of Man of War Studio's products and do like them, and also bought a couple items that didn't quite meet my expectations which I've sold or gave away as I swapped things out of my kit. I know Christian is a good guy and means well. He's always been communicative with me and never felt like he ghosted me. But this is pretty disappointing - no doubt do issues like this damage a company's brand. I also seen this on his website too...

Like Fettronics, we're losing another good vendor.

Darn, that is sad news.

My intention was never to impune Christian. I think he got dealt a bad hand in this boot production. There was a lot of chatter over on Facebook, and I wanted to consolidate it in the forum. It’s sad that this event is wrecking things. I am empathetic.

I know a lot of people are disappointed (I am too), but since it sounds like there's no way of a resolution to fix or replace I'd like to at least highlight the good for those who got boots (especially for first time boot owners who's this is their only option at the moment)

Yes there's size issues, we likely can add some padding or material into to the toe box to tighten up the fit.
Just as a test I jammed some tissue paper in there and it seems promising to tighten up.

The ankle opening is huge which is not great but flightsuits have velcro straps on the bottom which should help cinch down

My backup toe spikes are from Quest Design Canada and while not a perfect fit, I bet I'll be able to use a belt or mouse sander to knock back the angles of the soles to better match.

On foot with my flight suit and spats I don't think they look terrible, It sucks they weren't up to his normal standards but since there's no other options I'm going to have make the best of them (They are just a backup for me).

As far as the color goes, doesn't matter to me as they are going to be painted

Edit: And while I assume there are many first time boot buyers in this run (And TDH search function always seems broken lol)
Here's a great paint-up thread in addition to the one pinned to the top of this subforum

I'm going to start off by saying props to Christian to at least owning up and admitting fault. He could have become another FP and just ghosted and ran off. I wish he was in a financial position to refund those who really need it but I also understand the financial stress and burden of doing a run like this. I do hope we can get a new boot maker. Everyone who has made boots says it's a nightmare to handle and QA with any reasonably priced factory being oversees. These boots should never have happened. However at least we all got something and we aren't being ghosted. That isn't the desired outcome but it is a victory in this industry.

Moving on....

I've got a smaller pair coming my way as the size I got are easily 2 sizes too big despite being the same size I got years ago. If they fit, the rest of the issues can be managed. I will be doing a write up and video about how to correct some of the issues.

The color issues suck, but ultimately the original boots were painted as well so it's not like the concept is too far off. At this point I just wish he made them fully white instead of trying with the color. Very confused how the interior of the boots is a closer color than the exterior....

The ankle fit can be helped with the ankle wraps on the flight suit and the spats for everything not ESB. I'll probably get some padding that runs from the top of the foot up to the ankle.

Toe spike wise, MachineCraft's new spikes fit pretty well. Not perfect, but reasonable all things considered. A little bending of the ends and they should fit close enough to how the originals did.

I’m so disappointed, haven’t even got mine yet ,arriving Saturday. I’m looking at the pictures so far and can’t pretend to be excited, I understand it was a manufacture error, but it still sucks. I need time to process this after I get them, was looking forward to quality and now , ughhh.

I was looking forward too, my first boba boots. I don't know much about shoes but I am going to see if I can get someone to alter the boots. I don't currently have them, they are in the U.S with a trusted person for the free shipping. I hope it can be altered.

I am new to this so my opinion may not be worth much, but I think all the issues can be dealt with. I don't have mine in hand yet either, so these fixes may not work.

My hope is that the front shape will be hidden by the boot spikes, maybe some sanding to get the spikes to fit perfectly, and the coloration will be fixed when it gets painted/weathered. The ice cream sandwich look on the bottoms may be harder, but I am also hoping that can be fixed by a decent paint job.

For sizing, I plan on putting an insert in the toes to pad the length, and maybe get some extra to put on the sides. I was thinking of wearing lifts with the shoes anyways to get a couple inches in height (to make my a little more proportional) and hopefully that helps with being too baggy on top.

For the ankle opening being too large, I was thinking of getting some heavy duty elastic or something sewn into the opening towards the front. Since I am ROTJ Fett, anything in that area should be hidden by the spats and shouldn't affect the overall look.

All in theory, will start testing it when my boots arrive next week.
