New Hunter
Hi all, I'm somewhat new on TDH. I thought I would like to share with you my painting process of my Denuo Novo Jetpacks. Those who are interested in getting them or thinking about getting started I would like to share my experience.
DISCLAIMER: I am by no means a master, pro, or experienced painter or propmaker. I would appreciate any feedback, comments, or tips if anyone has any. My plan is to have both the Jango variants of the jetpacks for my second Jango build i’m working on.

At the time of purchase in December of 2024 the only jetpack available were the fully assembled kits. I bought both the JT-12 and the Z-6 and they arrived at my door in less than 3 weeks.
They arrived in large cardboard boxes nestled in styrofoam packaging (no mess!).

I Paint I decided to go with is Montana Spray Paint
JT 12:
  • Blue Note (5085)
  • Flipper (5000)
  • Rub n Buff Silver

Z-6
  • Purple Red
  • Signal Blue
  • Sh. White
  • Sh. Black
  • Terra

For Painting I decided to make my own painting booth. With PVC pipe, and exhaust fan. I’ll post more when parts are delivered.

Man these Denuo Novo jetpacks look great. Definitely post the finished products when you are done. Don't get me wrong, I love my MoW jetpacks but these are obviously a bit more accurate since they are lineage.

Do you own any MoW jetpacks? Would be interesting to see a direct side-by-side.

Update 1

JT-12
For Jango’s JT-12 the very first thing I did was construct a makeshift paint booth with PVC pipes, cardboard, dropdown plastic, and an exhaust fan I got off Amazon. The idea behind was to have a collapsible/portable painting booth that can easily be stored in a closet or garage when not in use.

Prep:
First I just want to say wear gloves, eye protection, and a painting mask. Just so we get that out of the way.
I first took a low pile microfiber towel, and wiped down the entire jetpack with isopropyl alcohol to remove any debris or oils. After, I took my air compressor to lightly blow off any dust, residual fibers from the towel and particulates from the surface. The jetpack comes already primed which is a huge time saver so I was able to jump right into painting.

Painting:
I started with the dark blue (Blue Note). I wanted to first apply the darkest color first so that it would be easier to touch up if there was overspray from a different color. To review the Montana spray paints I was very impressed with the quality of the paint as well as the dry times. The paint comes out really slow and precise. I didn't need to worry about overspraying or pooling like what you can get with other brands. I was able to make precise coats each pass holding the can 5 inches from the surface. I did 2 coats with 45 minutes between each coat. After 6 hours I deemed it safe to move it into the garage to finish curing. I let the paint dry for 24 hours after my last coat.

The Flipper blue color was my favorite part of painting however I feel that the flipper blue is a little too light for my taste. I did 3 coats of flipper blue with the same 45 minute interval between coats, 6 hours to handle, and 24 to fully cure. I have to say the texture of these montana paints provide great coverage and depth. ***Most IMPORTANTLY, if you decide to use Montana spray paints. I have noticed once the paint has dried, the areas that were painted and around it leaves an unusual amount of paint dust that can easily get on pieces that you don't want to be touched. Between colors I would suggest taking a dry paper towel to lightly wipe the dust away or use compressed air. Anyhow, I’m confident to say after letting the paint dry for 24 hours, you can tape the heck out of your jetpack to cover the spots. At no point did the paint lift up or tear when I peeled the tape.

Last but not least it was time for the silver rub n buff. I took a trip to Michaels down the street and the store employee asked me what it was for. I told him what I was doing and he too was a star wars fan and appreciated the project and dedication.

To begin I cut a microfiber towel to have a 2”x2” square. Be sure to tape off all areas you don't want to rub n buff because once this stuff goes on, it's almost impossible to remove. I Applied a dab of rub n buff silver the size of thumbtack and began to rub the surface with a medium pressure to cover a small area. I used straight line motion to get the finish I wanted. This stuff goes a long way and I used less than half the tube for the entire jetpack.

As of now, with someone who has little painting experience I was pleased with the results. In the pictures below there are some spots I need to touch up but came out pretty clean.

Thanks! I did have a MoW jeptack years ago, but have no idea what happened to it lol.

That JT-12 looks amazing! I think that the Flipper blue looks good. Nothing a little black wash can't fix if you are feeling it is too dark.

I will have to look into these Montana spray paints. Rustoleum always seems to pull up even after a few days of drying, requiring several touchups. And I am not always in the mood to get out the airbrush..

Good choice on the Rub'n Buff by the way. I have that on my JT-12 as well and it really looks the part.
