Gauntlet Question - about base color

On all of the gauntlets from Pre-Pro to ROTJ is the base coat silver and then whatever color on top of that?

I am not an expert but thats how I understand it. Then add some topical silver. To gauntlets seem to have the most obvious topical painting, to me at least.

If you're talking about doing the weathering in layers, I don't think there's anything between the silver and base colour. I painted the silver topically on my ESB gauntlets, and the only additional weathering its black grimey marks and a few washes.
