Gauntlet blueprints

Evening-

I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what the different colored dash lines mean. I am assuming that they are where to fold/bend the material, but I was just unsure if the different colors meant different things.

This is shaping up to be a very confusing puzzle!

HI,

I am attempting to build a set of gauntlets from the gauntlet blueprints and ran into a few problems. I am not sure what the correct length is for each gauntlet, but my arms measure at 10 3/4 inches from outer elbow to wrist and 8 1/2 inches from inner elbow to wrist. Are the templates supposed to be scaled up or down and if so, would that not affect the space where the MQ-1 keypad is positioned, for example the cutout would now be too large or too small.

Also, is there a most preferred material to build these out of? For example styrene or build a blank and then cold cast or fiberglass?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Alan, I found this really helpful. Does anyone have a good suggestion on what type of base to use? I was thinking foam but 1/4 in might not be stiff enough.

I have small arms. Measuring out circumference, it's 6.5 inches at the wrist and 10 inches where Boba's gauntlet should end with an overall gauntlet length of 7.5 inches. How much should I scale down by? As it's relevant, I'm using the A4 template which I need to fit to page at 320%. original size.

Wow Alan you are amazing. Seriously I used your template for the helmet, and it worked great, now I'm probably use all of your templates for boba armor! Oh yeah, just out of curiosity, does anyone know where I could find a 3d print file for the gauntlets?

ROTJ Gauntlets. what Humbrol paint is used for the Gauntlets? Some say its the same as the Mandibles but others say its a couple shades lighter. Can I use humbrol 73 only instead of mixing with 100 to get the lighter look?

Some insight and a final verdict on this?

Sheet metal tip that might work with paper templates....

Go for the inner diameters with dimensions and offset out the thickness of the material. When I lay out sheet metal flats, anything less than 7 gauge (.1875 inches/4.76mm), that is the only area where you have to account for an inside and outside radius on a 90 degree bend that is greater than material thickness. I have not experimented yet with paper, but I'd take a micrometer reading of the material you are using to make items.

Hows the scale of these for about a 6' guy?lower inner shell feels close but im not sure

Well after some head scratching and searching the reference
material here are the draft blueprints for the left gauntlet and
rocket. Once I am satisfied with the draft I’ll start working on
the templates.

As always take a look and let me know what you all think

UPDATED JULY 3rd 2007!!!

Here they are, ready for downloading. If you have any questions or comments please let me know.

I really want to give a very big THANK YOU! to MOJO-Fett for all of his help and encouragement with out it would have taken another 6 months before I managed to get motivated enough to finish them. He has done a great job of organizing and prototyping these templates, making them much easier to use and understand.

One thing to note: These templates DO NOT take into account material thickness. With that said if you use a thin material such as the 1mm FOAMEX as in the prototypes you really don’t need to worry about it. But if you start using anything over 1/16” make sure that you account for the extra material during your build.

These are set up to printout on standard 8.5” X 11” paper. Just set Acrobat to print the limits of the printer and they will print out full size and you are ready to go.

These are for the folks over across the pond. They are in the A4 paper size format. So you don’t have to worry about templates print out all messed up. Just set Acrobat to print to the limits of the printer and they will print out full size and you are ready to go.

roughly what is the front and back opening measurements?
I was looking at the printouts and there seems to be some long parts that cross pages and im not sure how to scale those without loosing part of it.

EDIT
also am I correct in seeing that there is an inner and outer shell? does that mean there is an arm shaped tube in the middle??? like a Pip boy kinda?
or are the Inner and outer laminated together?

The inner and outer shell for the left gauntlet are layered together to create the rectangular recesses. The right gauntlet has recesses near the front and rear edges created similarly by layering the inner and outer shells.

working on mine dont mind the burnt c-clamps I managed to catch them on fire.
