dogb Boba Fett ROTJ Hero Build Thread

I believe clothears is the only glove makers right now making 501st cell approval-able gloves. The wait time sucks but it’s worth it.
I got an email off to them. I am already on the wait list for the rest of Arkady's soft goods, so not getting in gloves right away is not a big deal.

As for your comment, "501st cell approval-able", I assume you meant Level 2?

I just got a pair of KriptonTop / CB gloves as a backup recently and they are honestly not bad especially since he runs sales.
He's updated the patches to have the correct stitching method and have puffier appearance, finger patches are a little narrow but I honestly think they would be good to go as another option. I'll update post with pic tonight.

Also you chose correctly with Arkady, Carole is awesome and very talented.

I would appreciate the pictures thank you!

Comparing to my older Mike M gloves (He used to do runs here) the fingers patches on the CB are a little on the long side but other than that I think they are decent. Cant go wrong with Clothears though from what I've seen if you can bear the wait.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. It would either be the finger patches being slightly long or the big top patch being too close to the fingers. Either way, they look decent

Thank you for the picture!

Received my Man of War boots today, as well as my boot spikes (MachineCraft) and chest electronics (Westaby).

I know there is a big saga going on with this last round of MoW boots, so here are my thoughts now that they are in hand. As a note, I am new to this, so these are just my opinions, more experienced Fett's can certainly tell me I am wrong.

1. I got mine at size 11-1/2. My normal shoe size is 10-1/2. I think this size will work for me as I have a wide foot and this boot is actually somewhat comfortable. The toe is slightly long, but a little padding up there should solve that pretty easily.
2. The opening is huge and probably going to be the hardest to fix. When walking around, the biggest irritation was the huge gap around my ankle. I clamped off the excess behind my ankle with a binder clip and that helped immensely, so I just need to find a way to do that without ruining the aesthetic. Maybe some elastic sewn up front to bunch it under the spats? Or tuck the legs of my flight suit down there to fill out the space?
3. There is a little bit of room above my foot before hit hits the fabric. I was walking around with 1.25" lifts which helped a little, but I may need to add some extra padding there as I felt like the boot didn't lift with my foot until it contacted the fabric. Irritating, but not a show stopper.
4. The toe shape seems to be OK as the boot spike kit I picked up from MachineCraft fit it almost perfectly. They don't have as aggressive as a cutback behind the spike strip as the reference picture though. With some decent screws holding it to the boot and some adhesive behind it, I think it will at least be passible.
5. As noted by someone else, the outer layers of piping do no have as aggressive of a sweepback towards the black elastic, they more or less just sweep up towards the top of the boot and run parallel to the elastic. There is a little bit of additional separation at the top, but not a lot. Based on some reference pictures I saw, I think this will be covered by the spats.
6. The soles seem to be 4 parts: the bottom layer of white; a consistently thick off white/beige; another sliver of off white/beige below the heel tapering off towards the toe (more obvious in picture 2); then another layer of white right below the boot itself. I am hoping this is paintable as the "ice cream sandwich" look is a bit goofy.
7. They are a lot more beige than I anticipated. Not really a problem as they will be painted, but I was expecting it to be a lot whiter.

Got my gauntlets in. Anybody care to weigh in on quality and/or other thoughts?

Left top is a fiberglass cast so has the crisper lines.

All detail parts are actual parts (MQ-1) or direct metal replicas.

I need to tweak the hoses so they attach under the shoulder and stay put. I am thinking of running braided steel cable through them and mounting a clasp of some sort under the shoulder piece so its removable, but secure. My soft goods are not here yet though so no hurry.

I have to touch up a few spots on the paint as there are a few obvious scratches vice weathering/damage.

I'm not a ROTJ expert but looks really good to me, damage landmarks look to be accurate to the ROTJ hero versions. I always liked that front lip on the ROTJ flamethrower I think it looks super cool. The only thing I could think of to enhance the look would be to grime/dirty up the back silver portion of the metal gauntlet rocket, so it doesn't look so brilliant. Little wash with watered down acrylic paint brushed on and wiped off could do that. Very nice gauntlets!

I believe Arkady sews hose attachment buckles right into the flight suit sleeves as a stock feature so you will be all set :)
Just use the steel cable /keyrings/similar to gather them and tie them into one of the buckles.

Thank you for the feedback! I'll take a look at wearing down the back part of the rocket. Once the soft goods are in hand I'll address the hoses. Fortunately I already have all the tooling to work with steel cabling and I know it will hold.

So Arkady sent me some fabric swatches for my soft goods and is allowing me to pick which one I want. I am not sure which is correct and would appreciate some input from others. I plan on posting to the BHG site as well as I hope to get Level 2 one day and would hate for me to have to get a whole new set of soft goods.

The first 3 pictures are taken inside, and the second 3 are outside in more natural light. Unfortunately my camera isn't great and the colors in the pictures don't match exactly to the swatches.

The quotes from the CRL on the flight suit are "The flight suit is a light gray, and is snugly fitted to the costumer" and "Flight suit has a bluish hue to it, specifically towards the shoulder, under the short sleeves and under the thigh pouch flaps." I'm thinking maybe the lighter one labeled "some poly + stretch"

On the flak vest and neck seal, I was given 2 choices of fabric, and on one of the options, I can do shiny side out or dull side out. Based on my read of the CRL, I am thinking the tackle twill shiny side out for the vest. Since the neck seal should match, I was going to go with the same thing there. Or should I alternate dull side out on the neck seal? I know the neck seal has to be sewn into the flight suit.

Welcome to the hunt! Lots of info here. More than happy to help!

I never got the option to chose fabric OR color from arkady....I simply ordered an ROTJ Hero flight suit and she made it. I got the full spread as well. Spats, pouches, flight suit and flak vest.

I'll include pics of mine in case it helps!

And again, welcome!

This is the neck seal inside and out indoors with no flash.

This helps a lot!

She offered me options on my flight suit since I live in Florida. She said the "some poly" version is lighter, breathes easier, and has some stretch. I think the 100% cotton twill is the "normal" choice though. Does your flight suit stretch at all in any direction? The "some poly" blend she sent has stretch in one direction, but almost none in the other.

It looks like for your vest, the shiny side is out, which is what I was thinking. On the neck seal, it's a little harder to tell, but it kinda looks shiny side out. Can you tell me if the neck seal and vest look the same on the outside?

One other question on the coloring. In all the pictures I see (other Fett's on the forums), it looks like the bulk of the flight suit is almost an off-white with heavy weathering/coloring on the legs and arms (most obvious in the CRL pictures), but looking at your pictures and my fabric swatches, the seem to be a much darker gray throughout. Is the intent to start with the gray and lighten it as necessary as part of the weathering process? Or are the pictures (like the CRL), just not very good at conveying the proper color?

Honestly, the CRL for that flight suit has always been a topic of contention but as another user stated: "movie screenshots should always be your number 1 reference".

I hate the image on the CRL for the flightsuit as its misleading, however, lighting makes all the difference! If you look at some of the screenshots from ROTJ during the sail barge battle, you can see noticeable differences in color when in the shade vs direct sunlight.

Notice the extreme bluish grey here:
Boba-Fett-Costume-Returnof-the-Jedi-HD-088.png
And literally seconds before its a tannish white color:

I was MORTIFIED when i received my flight suit because of the color. A blue grey? what?! I went down this rabbit hole. After tons of research and some crazy lighting experiments..... I am happy as hell that i got what i got. The ROTJ HERO uses a blue grey jumpsuit. When you recieve it, go outside with it under a tree and in the sun. It's INSANE how the color plays tricks on our mind and retinas.

Weathering is a tough thing. Did i do too much? Did i do too little? It's something all of us battle. Just take your time, weather some and go outside with it but don't get neurotic about it! Be careful and thoughtful and yea, i lighted up mine in some places just for piece of mind. Mind you, mine isn't complete yet either. I've only weathered one half of my suit (vertically) so far.

As for your questions about the neck seal, I am at work atm so ill try to get some more pics for you when i get home. But you may have to wait because I'm excited to get home and reveal my paint damages on my backplate!

I appreciate the info. Yeah, that lighting difference is crazy. I am probably going to go with the cotton twill version, but I have one more avenue to check (local Fett who said I could come check out his kit, just haven't been able to line up a meet). I also don't have to decide this instant since Arkady won't get to me for another several weeks (maybe a month or 2).

If/when you get time, I would appreciate any info you have on the neck seal too. I am trying to collect as much data as possible so I can make a good decision when the time comes.
