GOOD NEWS!
I spoke with the boot maker today. 5 pairs are being shipped to me today, I do not know the sizes, and the rest are finished, minus the soles. No ETA on those though. 2 weeks maybe.
This is the first chance I've had to post back since Dragon*Con in the midst of handling Hurricane Frances here in Florida!
Thanks to Wes for getting my pair out to me at DC! These are outstanding boots!! I'm very pleased with the quality and craftmanship and they are extremely lightweight! I can hardly wait to complete my aluminium spikes and toe plates!
One note on the internal construction at the elastic "U"...the boots are lined with a superior soft grain leather, but has an "unfinished" strip of leather across the "U"...for me it didn't allow enough stretch to get my heel to slide in, so I simply sliced out that piece of leather. Mind you, it IS sewn to the interior to the left and right of the "U" so you're not degrading the construction by removing the strip.
Thanks for the info scottmaul2, was unsure if cutting that was a good idea or not. My boots are great, a little tight around the toes but if I put on some superthin socks I should be ok, anyone know if these will stretch even the slightest over time?
But other than that, I am very, very happy with my boots, thanks wes
well i received mine today, impressive most impressive, i did have to cut the leather behind the elastic or else it would have never fit my foot. Great boot though.
Thanks alot Wes
Yes...confirmed. There is no way to degrade the boot construction by removing the leather "spacer"..per the boot construction.
I actually just slit the leather in half on one side (inner ankle), then later removed all of the superfolous(sp?) soft leather at the "U".
I should have pics of my toe plate and wooden dowels (thanks TB.409) spikes for review. Currently waiting on JB weld to set before going public! Still wanna make sure my "toe-roll" will not "pop" the spikes off. Mind you, the surface area to accommoadate the heel-to-toe-spike-roll per the boot will be justified and w/o compromise to wear and tear!
