Dive belt question

Active Hunter
Will the DACOR dive belt (same dive belt, just stamped DACOR, not US DIVE CO) pass for Level 2 certification. It's essentially the same buckle, just stamped under another company name. Thoughts? Thanks.

Taking this at face value, I'm not sure :)

For level two certification (if applicable): A black webbing waist belt connected either to the pack itself or a harness worn under the vest. This belt has an accurate US Divers buckle (or replica).

@Major - do you have any feedback on this one?

I think it'd probably pass because they're so similar but they are subtlety different. The differences are very small. Very small. You'd need them side by side to really see the difference.

I tend to agree you'll be OK, but for a different reason. I don't know for sure about yours, but my GML only requested full body shots (from every side) and a nebulous "close ups of any detail that may be pertinent" when I went through the clearances for my Vader suit. Since the buckle is underneath the flak vest for the most part, no one will see the stamp.

Cool, perhaps I'll grind down the letters, or maybe this will be enough to pass as a "replica". Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Youre SE right? PRETTY sure the SE suit uses the harness from magic of myth.... Rafal may be able to back that up....I noticed the harness is the one with the rows on it....and its facing the wearers right....also it doent say anything (US Divers) on it.

You can see they tucked the buckle under the belt here...

In the early 2000's, LFL had 2 ROTJ Boba suits on tour at the same time. The MOM suit was touring the US at the same time the SE suit was in the UK at AOSW. Unsure which of the 2 harnesses went with which complete costume (on film), though. The MOM harness had the detail painted buckle and 2 rivets holding the metal ring on each upper strap. The SE harness had unpainted silver buckle, and the straps were sewn at the end by the metal ring on each upper strap.

Here's the SE buckle:

Looking at the end of the flared upturned edge of the buckle, that isn't even the same model buckle as the one we commonly reference from the MOM exhibit. Instead, that SE suit harness is using the harness off the Supertrooper: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gallery/boba-fett-supertrooper/p10558-boba-fett-supertrooper.html

I was thinking that also...but looking at the material of the webbing...im not certain....the one you posted faces the wrong way though.... which led me to think the MOM harness not JP was the one used on the SE suit in the promo shots....not at the ehibit itself AOSW that is

Well the buckles can be ran either direction on the belt webbing. That may be it.

Both harnesses and both buckles were used on screen in the original ROTJ (non SE). So, I think most people seem to use the U.S. Divers ones we usually see as their costume ones, but absolutely the "Supertrooper" setup was used in ROTJ as well. The "hero" type being the U.S.Divers one we all know, and the "stunt" one the one seen on the SE suit exhibit, because much of that SE suit was used as the stunt suit in the original ROTJ, anyway. Before there was an SE. lol

As far as what harness was used on the SE promo shots? Unknown. We could tell if we could see the jetpack harness upper straps, but we can't in the angles of the promo pics.

Ah Cool, That's the way mine looks, makes me feel better about having no text on the buckle...:D

So we've got some decent pics on the MoM buckles, there's usually 2 SE Fett standards, promo or screen, I'll have to check the promo shots and see if I can ID which buckle is being worn. Looks like I opened a can of worms with this topic

That's quite ok! Research and discussion is the name of the game here at TDH. :)

Both harness buckles were used in the Sarlacc pit scene on the skiff, depending which suit was being worn for which section. I could give you a play by play if you wanted. LOL

By all means let me have it lol, I just checked the SE Promo photos, the buckle is tucked behind the ammo pouches in each pic, showing only the top edge in a few photos. I guess the DACOR one I just purchased will suffice, at least for now.

We'd never know which harness was used on the SE promo pics, unless we see the back of the suit. One harness had sewn jetpack connector ring connections (Supertrooper/SE), one had 2 rivets to connect it (plus a single extra 3rd rivet higher up - MOM).

MOM harness - Jabba's palace ROTJ. Green painted U.S.Diver’s buckle.

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gall...ba-fett-return-of-the-jedi-costume-jabba.html

......and SE tour suit harness on the SE stunt armor, shown last night. Sewn ring connection on upper straps, not riveted. Unpainted buckle, and a different shape than the MOM U.S. Diver’s buckle.
Both those are on the 2 tour suits. So they had at least 2 harnesses, if not more.

In the ROTJ promo images, he's wearing the MOM harness with the stunt jetpack.

Can't see his back in the SE promo images. But we know they kept the "Supertrooper" type harness on the SE suit when it went on tour – AOSW / Celebration 4.

The non U.S.Diver’s one we normally see has that really upturned edge on the buckle. The Supertrooper/SE one. That’s how to tell the difference in pics. Now, since the buckles just slide off the belt, they could have swapped buckles to different harnesses. We don’t know. But we can tell the harnesses based on the way they connected those rings holding onto the upper jetpack clips.

When Boba first “flys” down onto the Skiff (filmed in pick up shots later in California), he’s got on the SE harness (and ESB painted stunt helmet):

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gall...n-of-the-jedi-costume-hd-screen-captures.html

Then for the Arizona location, when fighting Luke on the skiff, he’s got on the SE harness:

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gall...n-of-the-jedi-costume-hd-screen-captures.html

Then when the explosion goes off, it appears he’s got on the MOM harness (and ESB hero helmet?):

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gall...n-of-the-jedi-costume-hd-screen-captures.html

Then when he falls onto the skiff, he’s wearing the SE vest (at least), back to the ROTJ helmet, and you can tell he’s got on the SE harness by the ring connection, being sewn.

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/gall...n-of-the-jedi-costume-hd-screen-captures.html

That whole “sarlacc pit scene” was filmed at different times, and even locations, with that pickup flying shot in California, so see how much of a mix of harness and armor sets they had going for it.

Great info! I looked at all of it! Just leads me to believe you could get away with rigging almost any harness and buckle, as long as you've got the rest of the kit squared away! Will definitely research this more.

These are the only (?) images of the ROTJ SE suit where the belt buckle is "visible", but is hard to tell which version is:

Boba-Fett-Costume-Special-Edition-25.jpg SE_RotJ_BTS_02.jpg

I'm sort of thinking the SE promo pics was the MOM harness, and the on set pic with Don Bies there is the Supertrooper harness. Even though the Bies pic is grainy, look at how shiny silver the side thruster greeblie on the jetpack is, and look at how equally bright the harness buckle is. We know the MOM harness buckle was painted green back then, so it wouldn't reflect like that.

Thanks for these details!! I've been squinting at those pictures for more than a year trying to sort out ROTJ hero from the rest for my build, but I never knew what a crazy job it would be (If I did at the start, I might have gone ESB...).
