I have found a way to make it not have the large bubble in the back. Seeing that the back will just be glued to the clear part, I do not need the back of the lens. I still have the little bubbles. Those will be until I build a degassing chamber, which is not going to happen soon.

i actually had surprisingly good luck with the resin from michaels. really clear, and very little bubble action.
and now if i just win that sx-70 auction

I live in the middle of Michigan... you'd expect there to be more flea markets, but there aren't!

Hey Asok, really nice job on the hollow RFs! I forgot you had this thread on making hollow RFs coz I am doing the exact same thing. I also have the lens from an old non-functional SX-70 camera that I bought for only $10 dollars. I just hope mine turns out as good as yours!

If I can make this, just about anybody can. I am like you and did not like the RF that are out there. I just cast mine so when I break it, I just cast a new one. $10 for a SX-70 lens, WOW! Mine cost me $30 each! Great find. Also, this is my 3rd try at making a RF. So, if it takes a few times, do not worry about it.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the replacing part! Yeah, I guess I got lucky on that SX-70 lens. Third try hmmm....looking good so far dude! Can't wait to see the finished product!
Have you tried a pressure pot? with a pressure gauge.
The kind that you use a air compressor with,not the stove top kind. I use one everyday at the Dental Lab where i work. The water can be room temp.
We use it to take out the bubbles in the dental acrylic when making small dentures or partials.
It may eliminate your bubbles completely.

how much does a little pot like that cost, and how big a compressor do you need?
