WIP: bcurtis's ESB Fett build (Lord help me) Pic Heavy!

So just to clarify with the jetpack, that was in fact painted by me (Dom, I think you got it confused when I stated that I didn't paint rnbuda's pack).

The "white wash" you're referring to is in fact dry-brush silver. The camera didn't do a lot of the weathering justice, so some play in Lightroom to color-correct what we should be seeing gave me this:

IMG_3073.jpgIMG_3085.jpgIMG_3082.jpgIMG_3130.jpg

Due to how garbage the clarity on some of those behind-the-scenes ESB photos are, we'll never really know which exact weathering methods were used for the jetpack. It's apparent that the dark gray "squiggles" are topical, and there are smudges of dark grays, blacks, and browns that were either brushed or sponged on, in addition to some obvious airbrush work.

But back to the "white-wash", again, it's dry-brush silver carefully painted in the shapes of what we can see in photos of the actual pack. While we can definitely make the argument that those areas are Joe Johnston, Sandy D's boyfriend, or whoever was working on it sanded down, unfortunately, any time I've seen an ESB pack with someone taking some sandpaper to it, the shapes and scratches rarely come out accurate...more of an "interpretation" of what the damage should be.

Overall, I couldn't be more proud of how this suit turned out for bcurtis. This isn't just my paintwork, it's HIS motivation to get the parts right, his countless trips to the tailor for the flightsuit and vest, as well as genetics giving him an identical build and stature to John Morton at the time of filming ESB. Hands down one of the most screen-accurate ESB's I've seen, and it's mostly due to his striving for complete accuracy. It only gets better from here, since he's planning on snagging a gorgeous Clothears vest (I've worked with them, and the level of accuracy, weight, drape, and texture is unmatched), as well as upgrading from his current Fettpride "FPA" armor to a more accurate sculpt (Most of us here can agree that especially the chest plates are pretty under-sized in comparison to the real deal. There's also actual measurement data to back that up, but that's not my place to discuss that).

Couldn't have built this for a nicer guy. His patience and understanding during this build was truly remarkable, and he's a solid friend.

Hell yea ,

Yeah, the flash on my Canon is pretty brutal. I should probably adjust that, lol. Nice job color correcting. Gotta go. I need to stare at the helmet some more.

Big BIIIIGGGG update!!! Rick delivered my gear today and we set out to finish little loose ends with the costume, such as helmet liner install, chin strap install, etc. I am pleased beyond words with how it turned out. I will properly thank Ponte once I have had some sleep. For now I just wanted to share a few photos with you all before I go to bed. There are some things that we need to adjust, most notably the chest logo placement and the addition of a bit of silver damage. The rest are little cosmetic things for my convenience. I hope the pictures to the outfit justice. This has been a labor of love (and hate) for 3 years! I am so happy to be crossing the *finish* line (haha yeah right). Anyhow please enjoy the photos. I'll be submitting to my 501st GML before the weekend is over. Take care!

You should have no problem with getting approval. If you get any pushback, let me know......

You're worried about approval?? Piff poff :)

i just just realized that you're gonna bring your suit to Celebration...and I will be at Celebration...,with my camera gear....

Thanks for the compliments folks. That's really nice of you. I'll take some fun photos in the coming days and post them up.

I was going thru your post after using search terms " jetpack harness " since I am starting to do mine and stumbled upon a pic of me in here! I thought your suit looked amazing in person and the changes you have made make it look even better! Was nice meeting you at Awesome Con and again - great build thread.

I would argue that both ways are acceptable. Especially considering that the majority of photo's show them the way he is wearing them in his photo's. Including screen time and reference photo's...Even though concept art shows them "right side up" the way you are referring them to be, If you are doing an "Empire Strikes Back" Boba, you are doing a "film referenced" Boba.

Again, not to step on any toes but I would argue both ways are completely acceptable and no one way is more correct than the other ;)

Actually there are at least 4 knee setups in ESB:

1 - The normal knee setup.

2 - The 2 right knee setup (right ESB and left Pre-Pro #3).

This just goes to show that Boba had the absolute best knee armor available to the galaxy and they are completely interchangeable...except for Upside Down and Non Reversed lol because Boba Just thought that would be ridiculous LOL.

Seriously though, does anybody know if this was on purpose or if Jeremy or whoever would help dress him could never remember how they previously had the knees set up and were too lazy to look back at earlier takes?

It was probably down to numerous factors such as bad continuity by the wardrobe department and that different actors played boba fett at different stages of ESB and the fact "the force willed it"......

So today I picked up Matty Matt's mannequin that he used for his Fett to use with my newly completed ESB. First of all, it was great to finally meet Matt in person. Got to hang out for a few and chat. Cool dude. We tried my flightsuit on the mannequin and it fit really well. The legs are a tighter fit than when I wear it but that's understandable since I have bird legs. The only minor "issue" is that the left wrist is to thick for my gauntlet to seal completely. Again, small wrists. Overall it seems as if it's going to work out quite nicely. It will allow me to not keep the suit in a case at the back of the house. I can now proudly display Boba in my home as well as watch him scare the hell out of unsuspecting guests when they come over. I don't have the blaster on the mannequin yet because all I have at home right now is my bronze Hand Schaub which would certainly break the arms or even topple the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy into a broken mess on my floor. I have one of Stormrider's rubber EE-3's at Rick's place to be painted. I think the mannequin should be able to support the weight of it. The mannequin is currently in my guest room just leaning against the closet door but I plan on moving it. I am seriously thinking about getting a support stand that will embrace Fett by the waist in order to hold it in place and eliminate the chance of my curious dog knocking him over (I'm going to have nightmares). Anyhow, I have attached some photos below. There are still a handful of minor details that I need to finish on the costume but I will be addressing those in the next week. Just want to say thank you to Matt for agreeing to sell the mannequin to me. I've always liked the pose of his Fett, not to mention his build thread was what made me want to put together my own. Well, enough of me talking. Here are some photos. Enjoy!

Here you can see some of the weathering on the flightsuit. It often gets washed out by the flash in my photos.

A couple of full body shots (I'll take more once it's in it's final location in the house).

Awesome, Curtis!

There was a guy on here that did a tutorial for carbon freezing stands. Might be a way to fix the mannequin to the stand so help keep it sturdy and avoid a waist. Some of those mannequins in storefronts have a wide metal base with a piece that goes up the ankle. Might be something to consider!

The knees popped off frequently, so it is possible that they tried different positions of the knees (quote taken from the Star Wars Aficionado site):
LATE APRIL/EARLY MAY 1979

BESPIN CORRIDOR
(ADDITIONAL FILMING)

Filling in for an actor who is suddenly un-available for the day, film and TV stalwart Jeremy Bulloch, as well as playing Boba Fett in his required scenes on Bespin (with the characters knee pads often being the cause of hilarity with the cast and crew - when the actor is required to walk they would often dislodge from the costume and go flying off across the set!!), also plays the additional part of the Imperial Officer, Lieutenant Sheckil, who escorts Leia and the rest of her captured party in a lure to trap Luke in the carbon freezing chamber.

Congratulations Bryan. I've been following your build for the last two years and it is truly a monumental accomplishment and a wonderful looking suit. One of the best ESB fetts I have seen on these boards by far. Right alongside mattymatts and wastelands builds. Please do yourself a favor and anchor the mannequin to a wall so that it won't topple over. I do remember seeing a member's sad thread here a few years ago where he had his full suit on a mannequin and found the whole thing had fallen over one day.

My ears are burning. Holy crap, that looks awesome. I'm so glad Bryan got to pick this up for his Fett. Simply amazing. I was the one who built the carbon freezing chamber and I also found the mannequin fallen over one day, lol. A wire anchored to the wall and looped through the ammo belt is all you'll need. Even if his legs are bumped, he's not going anywhere.

Bryan, any thick areas on the body can be shaved down. I used to use a little wood saw and carve off pieces if an area was too thick. The thighs could definitely be thinned down a little. I'm not sure how much tape is on the wrist but you can make a cut and rip it off. There's a wooden wrist under there for the artist's hand.
