Will I measure up to the 501st standards?

Hi all, this is my first post on these boards.

I need opinions about what will be allowed by the 501st. I want to join my local garrison and I am anxious to go trooping with them. This being said I don't want to waste a lot of time with products that will not be good enough.

I have already been duped into buying a Rubies bucket from ebay. Not only is it terrible in every way but it is way too small for me. I am 6' tall and 200 lbs and I am thinking about getting a 95 Don Post and doing the repaint. I'm not sure if this one will still be too small for me and will I need to go with a BobaMaker bucket anyway.

Does anyone know if the 95 DP will look good enough for 501st standards? I figure that if it will, I will go with that one so that I can stay within a budget and to be sure that I have the paint scheme down before I some day upgrade to a BM bucket.

You are definately too big for a 95 DP. The 95 just looks better than the rubies, it isn't any bigger. It's been said a hundred times before, your bucket is the most important part of the suit...do not skimp on it. I would definately invest in a larger helmet. Search the board, there are options here for reputable bucket providers.

I was told that Jeremy was 6'1" in costume. I can't verify that but I was told that because I am the same height.

It all depends on your GML. I am the GML for the Southern Outpost and I try my best to only allow the best possible costumes, In a perfect world I would only allow the most screen accurate costumes. Some GMLs seem to accept anything or make you a member with out even seeing pictures and others like myself will only allow you to join if you send pictures and meet a certain standard. Membership standards will vary from each GML. For example a Don Post helmet is exceptable to me only if it has a full visor and a better paint job.

Good info. I have heard a lot of talk about the 95 DP and I was under the impression that it was larger and of better quality that the Rubies. Looks like I'll have to go with something larger.

According to the Star Wars Galaxies Database for Boba Fett, He is 1.83 meters tall, which converts to 72.04 inches which is equal to 6 feet. Unless my math is bad.

I'm the GML for the New England Garrison and was once the webmaster for the Legion. Personally I wouldn't allow a 95 Don Post into the NEG without some SERIOUS modifications first.

You might want to do what others here have already said... skip the Don Post and go right for a better version. Look around here... you'll find some soon enough or someone will PM you with one.

As for what's acceptable, technically the Don Post isn't accurate enough unless you do some serious modifications and even then its usually too small. If you're 6 feet I'm sure that would be the case for you. I started out with a 96 Don Post... removed the cheesy visor, repainted the whole thing, replaced the rangefinder, etc... and I still looked wrong. They'd most likely let you in but it just wouldn't look quite right... Besides, if you're anything like most of us here you'll never be happy with your suit no matter how much you do to it. You'll be stuck in the same upgrading rut with the rest of us.  4 years for me and still going.

Psst... Jeremy IS 6 feet without the costume so anything around there is a good height for accuracy. Not that it matters anyway because we aren't THAT picky on accuracy.

I agree with Webchief, but I've seen some really amazing DP helmets that have come from people on this board...and I've seen some really bad ones as well (mostly from non TDH). Cost is always the number one issue for most folks, If you can't afford a Nice fiberglass helmet do like a friend of mine did, Mod a DP and make it look great and sell it for enough money to buy a really good fiberglass one.

Christo... I just realized you're from New England too... PM me with more info if you want to chat about the New England Garrison and how to join. I obviously can be of some help there. ;)

Thanks webcheif. I am actually looking to join the NEG and I had spoken with you a little through email a few weeks ago when I joined the NEG forum. You had suggested that I begin here at TDH. Obviously the fact that you are the GML for the NEG as well as a Fett, makes your opinion the most important to me, no offense everyone else.

The biggest problem that I have found here is the varrying opinions. As you see above some people say that almost anything goes and will be allowed into the 501st. I have high standards myself and I truly want my costume to be movie accurate. Problem is, finding out what is "accurate".

Can someone please tell me how to find some reputable helmet providers here? I have tried the serach function and I just end up finding posts like this of people looking for a helmet or advice on one.

Is it possible to get a great movie sized fiberglass bucket without spending $300?

DP 95's are awesome there is absolutly nothing wrong with them other than you have to take great care not to let them sit anywhere where there is heat like a car on a hot day, or it will warp, unlike fiberglass.

Jeremy Bullock is about 5'11" now I think, but at the time He was 6 foot I believe, He has shrunk  Not only that on the back of every Boba Fett figure He is confirmed to be 1.8 meters which is right over 6 foot.

I agree they have a pretty nice shape but I disagree with the warping being the only thing wrong with them. For someone who's 6 feet tall, 200 pounds it'll look too small. Trust me, I'm 6'2", 220 and I had a Don Post 96 (which was almost as good as a 95)... it was tiny compared to my MSH2. You could almost fit the 95 into the MSH2.

My problem is this: I don't even know what a MSH2 is or where to get one. I am aware of the "Mystery Helmet" that I've seen on ebay and the helmet that is available from BobaMaker's web site, but that is the extent of my knowledge base of larger helmets.

It would be great if this site had some kind of a directory of the helmets that are available, where to get them, what the cost is and reviews from people who have experiance with them. Not such a crazy idea since "your bucket is the most important part of the outfit".

It looks like the cheapest that I could get a "Mystery" would be about $175 from ebay if I'm not outbid. Is this the price range that I have to be looking?

There is in this website that very thing, you have to look for it though in the search function.
