Where does the cape attach

I see the red on the cap but wonder if that is just an issue with the aged picture. The beacon cap also looks brass/copper colored and it is black in other pics. Everytime I think I have it right something else come up haha

More likely the top was made with copper, then painted in black and some of the paint got peeled off.

I am thinking the beacon top in those pictures is probably a bit of an optical illusion. Like "the dress." The picture it looks black in looks a bit overexposed.

I could be wrong, of course.

I think the beacon looks copper in the "copper" image because what you see as a copper color is the light from inside, where in the "black" image the light is off.
