Sideshow Premium Format ESB Boba Fett

Theres nothing different then anything else they put out...the prototype is always nicer then what you get in hand...

Honestly, my Mythos as well as my Scum and Villainy Fetts are true to the prototype images and both are amazing pieces. aside from some minor armor sculpt issues, the S&V 1/6 figure could be used as a reference for ESB accuracy. this level of sloppiness seems, at least to me, to be relatively recent.

so I received my replacement helmet with the fixed cat scratch.... but NOW I have the dreaded silver X on the killstripes... WTF.

Is the silver topical? It is right? Eric/SuperJedi is the topical expert, what do you think bro?

Do you think some of the silver x can be removed?

bahhhh it's so messed up because the other helmet has perfect paint around the killstripes. I wish i could just mash them together lol. Should've saw this one coming... mehh

Hmm. . . I didn't consider doing any paint removal experiments on JB's helmet. I don't know what was used, but if you're
willing to try some stuff out, you could put some alcohol on a Q-tip and try rubbing it (gently) to see if that does anything.
Or maybe do the same with acrylic paint thinner if the alcohol has no effect.

I wouldn't recommend anything stronger as that might take off the underlying paint and maybe even start to melt the plastic.

It's too bad that both of the problems you're having are on the dome. The helmet comes apart at the top of the visor. If you
had one problem with the base, and another problem on the dome, you could have simply switched them.

thanks brother! I wish they were on the separate parts, but unfortunately the cat scratch and killstripes, as you know all too well, is both on the dome. I do have acrylic thinner and some alcohol. I just wish I had your skills :( I could probably just complete the cat scratch and be done with my original one, or just paint out some of the "X" on the killstripes which might be easier. I'm guessing though, with your experience, it's probably impossible to match the same tones, right?

blehhhhhh is it too hard to ask for a decent helmet paint up and correct mythosaur skull :(

i believe the damage that looks any bit decent is some sort of decal since the two helmets i have both had the exact same marks in the exact same places and would also account for why only half of your kitty scratch is present. the "extra" damage that looks like a 5 year old did it was definitely added after the original decals were printed on. you may have some luck trying to remove the "extra" damage on top. i just dont get it. the "extra" damage is so unnecessary. totally stupid to add it, the decals, or whatever they used to mass produce the helmets, were decent to a certain extent and in no way needed any "extra" help from the 5 year old with a paint brush.

Sideshow posted some pics of the statute on Facebook and I asked why the finished product looks like a POS compared to the prototype Alex gave them, and of course I got no reply.

Got the cape done. The orange was off so I fixed that along with adding accurate damage. I'm not too keen on the misplacement of the stripe so I'll likely be replacing the entire cape with the same material I used for my suit. But for now...

Weathering the flight suit tonight.

Doing a great job with your PF ESB... just you pointing out all the issues has me dying a little bit every time inside haha.

So here is some interesting things I'd like to add.

I got an extra set of shin tools form the HT Quarterscale ROTJ Fett, I'm going to use the jetpack adjustment tool to put in the empty pouch, but I am also considering swapping the Squegee, thoughts?

here it is with SSC shin tool in place (with Hot Toys jetpack adjustment tool added)

HT Quarterscale on left, old SSC on right.. you can see it's pretty ugly for PF, I mean the details leave a lot to be desired! Seems like the tools were a real after-thought, or were never properly refined from the placeholders of the prototype.

here are the photos of the first helmet I received.. and then the replacement. I decided to live with the ugly "x" that's on the kill stripes.. it's not too terrible. It's just unfortunate it didn't come with the same kill stripes that my incomplete cat scratch helmet came with... can't have it all I guess.

either way, here is some interesting photos showing how the weathering of the two helmets compare to each other:

an inconsistency you can see on the incomplete cat scratch is the silver weathering that should follow the edge of the outside of the mandible is misaligned and completely detached.

Wow, the stock shin tools are just straight garbage. How is it that hot toys can get stuff right and sideshow falls flat on their face. I tried to leave a review on the ssc website for the PF fett and they will not post my review, probably because I said it's a waist of money and that their QA department is a joke.

yeah, pretty bad. kinda dumb too that they combined two found part-ish looking pieces with the knife. JCFETT, nice score with the extra sonic beam weapon. thats how its SUPPOSED to look. HT seems to have the quality that SS had years ago but has since abandoned. the detail in that shin tool alone is fantastic. trade???? lol the HT shin tool is much more proportionate to the grossly oversized anti-security blade. i will have to cut the 'blade' piece to make sure the tool sits properly in the pocket.
trust me Justin, when they first posted the pictures of the production piece and removed the prototype, i blew up their page with questions of why there were so many errors and why they deviated from Alex's prototype. they deleted my comments as well.

Thanks guys. Eric is the master of ESB helmets, doesn't matter what the scale.

so with the helmet done, still not ready to tackle the armor just yet I turn my focus to the jetpack...
remember? this bad boy...

first thing was to fix the wonky left side thruster then remove the awesomely misplaced decals. low and behold, there was a reason one was oddly placed where it was. a marker for one of the two decals? IDK

filled in the "marker" and sanded, well looky there, a much more accurate color lies underneath.

got so mad i yelled at the jetpack and scared the color out of it. lol also added the holes in the rocket...

much better.
bad3ccd18d5dcf6878757e8cca5a5114.jpg

added a first layer of grime and a couple basic details...

added some rust pigments to the crevices.
eb93b2fd11813aa4924215190368f266.jpg

then some of the silver damage as well as another heavy layer of grime.
70b0d74cc48fb4f09e190257dfa2fd5c.jpg

ended up rethinking the filthiness and pulled back on it quite a bit before completing the final details. also added the dental file (a little oversized but that's mainly so you know it's there!) and of course the white dot lol NERRRRRD[emoji851]
now if i can just get MachineCraft to make me a functioning beacon, I'll be good to go!

here's the before and after...
f926ca0ff1b890f9c2894335b7007720.jpg

much happier now, even though the jetpack isn't very visible from where he will be scoping bounties from, i'll know at least it's much more accurate.

Great fixes to the statue, but for what they charged for it and the work that arc put into the prototype, you shouldn't have had to fix anything.
