RS ROTJ build

Think youre on the right track but looks like the front is still to thick....there should be a taper not a flatness to the top.

I wanted to take more but the bottom of the gauntlet is getting tighter and if I take more it may not fit around my forearm. Plus I still have to have a sleeve in there. Think I might just leave it. I might be able to take a hair off but not sure if I want to open that can.

I figured out what I'm going to do. After further studying the top of the left gauntlet where the keypad is Looks to high. Not so much the bottom. I'm going to sand down the top where the pad is to a bit of a downward slope. This should bring it closer to the original with out having to take of more material on the bottom. I'll also have to set the pad in at a bit of an angle with a couple small downward sloping shims. What do you guys think?

Thank you.

I'm cooked. I have it as close as I want right now. It's a little off from original but I think within margin.

Whipcord housing looks like it's in about the right spot now, good job. The hinges won't keep you from getting approved, I've seen lots of people get approved with them.
As for those switches, to the best of my knowledge it's push button. I don't THINK they are toggle on ROTJ....but I have been wrong many times before. Remember too, that pic you showed might have been a stunt....might have been (see above about been wrong before)
We need to get Rafal in here to clear that up lol.
Everything else looks like you're on the right track. Unfortunately now you're going to have to fill in those holes on the right gaunt, but better to have to do it now rather than after you painted it.
As for that left gaunt, I kinda have to agree with F4R on that...there should be a taper to it when you cut that top gaunt half. It looks to me like you took too much off the back, and not quite enough off the front. Just do the best you can with where you're at, I know it can be tricky. There's no question that this is a difficult costume.
Take your time and check those reference photos twice and cut once. Good luck! :)

Thanks for the advice. I really do appreciate it. I've already filled the holes on the right gauntlet. Not a big deal for me. I have plenty of putty. I've done my share of plastic models before. Just not as experienced in custom work. Everything was a bit more straight forward with modeling.

I'll look more into the buttons. I think I found the ones that were referenced to me but at $10 a piece I want to be sure.

For my next order of business I need to order some last remaining parts and wanted recommendations. MOW has a lot of what I need just wondering about quality and wait times. I need the ammo belt, gloves, jet pack harness and EE-3. The girth belt I was going to buy and dye myself. I like the jet pack harness on MOW. It looks much more comfortable than the scuba harness. Thoughts? As for the EE-3 I was going to order from RS. I really like working with those guys. Any other recommendations?

On the list for an EE-3 from jbdubz. And belt ordered from Delta13mike. Thanks guys. Can't wait to see the products. Think I'm going to order the jet pack harness from MOW.

Worked a bit more on my days off. Finally got the gauntlets assembled put some silver on them for the undertone of metal. I used some liquid masking and tried to match reference photos best I can. Then put down some Wisconsin Central Maroon on them. Still have to get them with some charcoal overspray for the burn marks and oxidation. Working on the missile also. Put silver and gold down. Still have to weather it. Here are my pics.

Uber stoked the way the rocket came out. Painted the gold and aluminum first. Added silver to the gold with some rub n buff. Needs a bit more I think. The middle I put down some black paint then pushed some painters tape into it and quickly pulled it off. Then hit some spots with a gunmetal powder I have for oxidation effects. Here is a pic of mine next to a pic of the screen used.

I'm going to call the gauntlets done minus the light and switch on the left by the rocket. Gonna hookup the hoses tonight. I was happy to find out Carol already included a plastic buckle in the sleeve for the tubes. One less thing I have to do. So delighted to find that small detail.

Worked on the bucket a bit tonight. Put the scratches and scrapes in it using some references photos, templates and Fett Pride photos. I then hit it with some adhesion promoter and fine primer. Happy with the results. Going to hit it with silver tomorrow.

Ok. Been on a bit of a hiatus. Still been working on the armor just small things here and there. One big change is I decided to not paint the armor backwards like most do. I went out and bought a Silhouette Cameo to print out the stencils. Awesome machine. Cuts vinyl also so I can cover my car in stickers. Lol. I started painting the bucket in the reverse order and my masking material did not peel off easily so I took a different approach. Still working on sizing the stencils but hope to start using them soon.

I cleared off the pool table and I'm using that as a staging area. I layed out the costume and seeing it all together is exciting and daunting because I see how much more work there is to do. Here's a pic.

Today I decided to cut out the digital display on the left breast plate. Came out very nicely. Just need to find a piece of tinted plastic to put down in front of it then I will secure it to the plate.

Finally I want to show you a pic of the bucket so far. Waiting for some more colors to come in the mail to finish up the base paints. Some of these colors are a pain to get. Seems to be a lot discontinued. Had to do some mixing to get the red-brown done right. I think it's pretty close.

You can see my attempt at the reverse painting on the lower cheeks. Didn't come out bad but I know I can do better.
